Plot
After a mission that went horribly wrong, former CIA operative Robyn McCall decided to call it quits and spend more time at home with her family. However, after stumbling onto a few innocent people being taken advantage of, Robyn decides to become a vigilante and defender of those who feel they have nowhere else to turn, at least in the New York City area. Thus, with her extensive skills, she becomes The Equalizer.

Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah) and Young Robyn (Taliyah Whitaker)
Robyn was a troubled kid growing up who was given an ultimatum: Either you will go to jail or join the army. Robyn chose the army and eventually worked her way into the CIA. There she’d handled various sensitive missions, which made her quite the asset. However, in the process of saving the world, under the guise she was working for a charitable non-profit, she sacrificed her relationship with her daughter.
This is why, decades after joining the military and after a botched mission, she decides to quit to do more local work, helping those with nowhere to turn, and rebuild her relationship with her kid.

Detective Marcus Dante (Tory Kittles) & 8 Year Old Dante (Jelani Dacres)
Fresh from suspension, Detective Dante can be considered a good cop. It’s just his patience for the BS of the legal system, once he hands off his part in it, made him mad enough to punch the ADA. Mainly due to the ADA screwing over a girl, who flipped on her drug-dealing boyfriend, and when the ADA didn’t think they had a case, they left the girl vulnerable. Which, for Detective Dante, led him to feel justified in punching the ADA.
Though it should be noted, we aren’t explicitly told what happened to the girl. However, you could make assumptions.
