Movie Summary
Despite how beloved and extroverted Saira’s parents, the queens of Clitopolis, are, she, as the princess, an introvert, has never gotten the same level of love. She isn’t into parties, orgies, or anything like that; she likes magic, is a bit of a recluse, and that’s why, when Kiki came into her life, she was immensely happy. She was a badass and liked her, but with Saira not being accustomed to dating, she was clingy, and that led to the end of that.
At least until Maliens kidnapped Kiki and Saira, who has the labyrs that the Maliens want, is forced to travel outside the gay part of the universe to save the girl she sees as her true love.

Saira (Shabana Azeez)

- Character Summary: The princess of Clitopolis is very different from not only her parents, but also seemingly most who live in the kingdom. She is a nerd, introverted, doesn’t like to party in any which way the term is used, and is chronically single. Hence, she latches onto Kiki, since she seems to think her first will be her last.
Kiki (Bernie Van Tiel)
- Check out other productions we’ve covered starring this actor: [Link to Actor’s Tag]
- Character Summary: Kiki is a bounty hunter and one of, if not Saira’s first, girlfriend. Because of this, Saira annoys her a bit, though she does note she is quite good with her hands or fingers.
Willow (Gemma Chua-Tran)

- Check out other productions we’ve covered starring this actor: [Link to Actor’s Tag]

Review and Commentary
Highlight(s)
The Animation And Comedy Style [86/100]
For anyone who loved the late 90s to 2000s Cartoon Network/Adult Swim style of comedy and animation, Lesbian Space Princess was made for you. The humor is filled to the brim with sarcasm, sly commentary, and a zaniness that is just as much made for those who like to get a little high before watching animation as for those who like to be sober.
Saira’s Growth Doesn’t Leave Her Perfect [85/100]
Getting into the details, one of the best things about Lesbian Space Princess is that Saira isn’t made to be the victim when we meet her, nor perfect by the time the movie ends. It allows her to maintain being complicated, shows how flawed she is, and reminds you that one adventure isn’t going to drastically change someone.
Saira, no matter how much she experiences, gets to know herself, becomes more powerful in some form, hasn’t changed her patterns. Her trauma remains, and while she learns is what she is capable of, she doesn’t necessarily alter the definition of who she is. This is especially seen regarding her relationship with a character named Willow, who seems perfect for Saira. Yet, the maltreatment Saira is used to, no matter what Saira learns about the world and herself, remains. Thus keeping Willow wonderful, but foreign to her in such a way that makes you want to shake Saira.
Surprisingly Entertaining Violence [83/100]
Part of the comedic appeal of Lesbian Space Princess is that it is notably violent. Granted, most of the violence is due to Saira accidentally harming people or other people’s own stupidity. This leads to decapitation, arms cut off, screaming, of course, and rather than the shock and need to cover your mouth, it is all portrayed in a hilarious way.
On The Fence
The Music [76/100]
If you’re someone who has ever had some form of interest in Garfunkel and Oates or other indie groups that are a bit eccentric, you may enjoy the music. It is mostly sung by Willow, mainly about pushing the story along, but it also feels unnecessary, if not potentially annoying at times. Mind you, it fits the vibe of the movie, but it may also remind you why we don’t see as many shows like this on Adult Swim anymore.
I should note, though, there are other genres or types of music, like rock/metal, when Saira goes to a club, but it is mostly Willow’s.
Overall
Our Rating (82/100): Positive (Worth Seeing)
Between a hit of nostalgia, a lead whose growth isn’t linear, and comedic moments that will at least make you have a tittering laugh, Lesbian Space Princess is worth seeing. Now, the music may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but no movie is perfect.
