Within a week, Parker and Owen will be getting married, and to much surprise, her parents, Billy and Lilly, are coming. Mind you, Parker and Owen have known each other for a little more than a year and a half, and Owen hasn’t met Parker’s parents once, but Parker has met Owen’s neurotic parents, Neil and Margie.

But, as soon as Billy and Lilly arrive, they make their presence known and shake things up a bit. Especially after they rob the bank Owen works at, and their secrets lead to a woman named Rehan coming out of the woodworks and issuing threats.

Highlights

The Graveyard Chase

One of the few ways “The Out-Laws” stands out is a vehicular chase scene that has Billy, Lilly, and Owen in an armored vehicle running from the cops. The sole reason this is a highlight is because it is just a brilliant idea. Between the tombstones, mausoleums, and other obstacles, while an armored vehicle can plow through it all, the average police vehicle can’t so, while a mistake on Owen’s part, it is a brilliant one.

On The Fence

It’s Pleasant But Unremarkable

“The Out-Laws” is a quantity over quality film. Nothing about it really stands out. DeVine is playing his usual shtick, just instead of the jerk he is self-deprecating. Dobrev is the barely fleshed-out girlfriend turned wife, and no matter who you name, they bring the kind of character they’ve long been known for. There is even a James Bond joke to let you know no one is pushing themselves here. This is just a fun job featuring actors whose shtick might have been good while they were building their fame and reputation, but in “The Out-Laws?” That shtick shows little value compared to what made them famous.

Does Blake Anderson have a large role?

No. he plays Owen’s cousin, and while seen in a dinner scene early in the movie, he is largely absent until Owen, Billy, and Lilly need a getaway driver.

The Out-Laws (2023) – Movie Review and Summary
Overall
“The Out-Laws” gives the absolute minimum to be considered entertaining. It gives minimal character development and mainly relies on what each actor has been typecast, and the story only gives enough so you don’t get bored, but by no means does it pursue giving you a single reason ever to watch this again.
