Eva has been single for almost a year now, after a rather rough relationship which included being cheated on. Unfortunately, just as her 30th birthday hits and she feels ready to get out there, she learns there is a serial killer using dating apps to choose their next victim. Undeterred, she decides to go on dates, but as the men she dates share features of the alleged killer, based on a murder investigation podcast, Eva is forced to question, and maybe expose, who is the person who may try to kill her.
Character Descriptions
Eva
Eva is a recently turned 30-year-old woman who has been single for less than a year and professionally? Well, her work life is as stagnant as her personal life. But, while she doesn’t have it in her to transform her career prospects right now, she can do something about being single, horny, and wanting to go on dates.
- The actor is also known for their role in “A Nice Girl Like You.”
Kyle
Kyle is an acquaintance from Eva’s childhood who is a veterinarian and a little out there, but in a way that Eva can appreciate.
- The actor is also known for their role in “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.”
Mitch
Mitch owns a bar, has allegedly burnt off his fingertips from working in a kitchen, and delivers some of the best sex Eva has ever had. He can be a bit weird about being on a roster, though.

Review
Our Rating (79/100): Mixed (Divisive)
When it comes to “F Mary Kill,” it is likable in the sense that it presents a nice mystery and even provides an interesting point of view of what dating is like in the app era. However, a lot of the characters can come off thin, mainly to keep Lucy Hale’s character interesting and the focal point.
Audience
“F Mary Kill” is definitely geared towards those who like movies with simple murder mysteries that are comedies rather than dramas. I would say this is definitely for fans of Lucy Hale as this film fits squarely within her brand.
Highlights
Trying To Guess Which Guy Could Be The Killer
When it comes to the men in the film, Kyle, Mitch, and Norman, they all make for perfect killers. They wear identical-size shoes, have quirks, and have things about them that, without giving grace or seeking understanding, easily raise red flags. With that in mind, it makes you want to really take note of each guy and how they operate.
Could Mitch be the killer, considering he gets a bit possessive? What about Norman, considering he is into forensics and works for a security company? Kyle has anger issues and is a bit weird, so what about him? A lot of the reasons, I’ll admit, are superficial, but figuring out what is truly a red flag and you being paranoid or judgemental is difficult – which is shown by Eva’s assumptions.
A Comedic Way Of Pushing How Most Guys Come Off Weird
A movie similar to this, “Cat Person,” pushed what it is like to be a heterosexual woman who dates men, and it focused on the lead dating one guy and her running through a lot of the worst-case scenarios. That movie is more of a horror/ thriller, while “F Mary Kill” is more of a comedy. Yet, there is the same push for viewers to understand the amount of trust that is involved in dating someone and both the dangers of hooking up on the first date and the thrill of it.
All the while, as noted in the previous topic, you get this sense that, as a third party, Eva is weird for letting certain things slide. Yet, as shown by the reveal of who the killer is, a lot of us can feel like the exception and that someone wouldn’t possibly harm or try to kill us. Never mind, we wouldn’t associate with someone capable of doing that unless they were defending themselves or their kids.
On The Fence
Feeling That Eva’s Friends Were A Bit Underdeveloped
You’d think with Eva having three friends and a sister who make up her friend group, each one would feel like a fleshed-out character. However, that isn’t the case. In the film, they give a name, age, and relationship status when you meet most characters – sometimes even a fun fact. We don’t really get past that with Eva’s friends, and I feel like that matters, even if they aren’t the ones we’re guided to consider the potential killer, they are Eva’s support network.
So when it comes to her sister, who is married, with kids from the guy who originally was a one night stand, you’d hope she’d provide some advice and maybe would push you to think one guy couldn’t be the killer, and each friend would join in picking a favorite. One does this, but she is so delusional it is hard to take her seriously.
As for the others? I feel like they were too interesting and ended up downplayed so they wouldn’t compete with Eva. For as much as we love Hale as an actress, her asset is also a liability if placed alongside other women whose look and characters have something going for them. The best way I can put it is, because Hale has the look, vibe, and persona of the girl next door, it makes it so if anyone has an edge to them, they can pull attention from her. Making it so, when it comes to the ladies, as much as you recognize they are supporting characters, it seems like they were made to serve such strict purposes to keep from taking away from the lead’s shine.
