Movie Summary
Tony is looking to have top surgery so that by the summer, they can go out without a shirt on, embracing the sun. However, they don’t have money like that. But, with Adam, Tony’s roommate, mentioning how much their ex made on what looks like a precursor to OnlyFans, Tony seems willing to be in drag to make the money they need.

Overall
Our Rating (82/100): Positive (Worth Seeing)
What helps Flash Sale stand out is that it expands beyond what we usually see for trans men, in terms of catching up to the rest of the LGBT+ community via taking the road of trauma and coming out before diversifying. Tony’s story of being willing to present as femme to get the money they need for top surgery is unique, different, and I can imagine, if the short went on, we would have gotten the complications of that – especially if they were successful.
But, on top of the potential for a longer piece presented, it also pushes the same thoughts and ideas Hunter Schafer did in Euphoria, with their episode “Fuck Anyone Who’s Not a Sea Blob.” Albeit not as deep, this is a comedy, but Flash Sale does push you to think about presentation and how the male gaze for trans people, either to be desirable or present as unclockable, is affected by external pressures.
