Plot Summary

Burt and Kate have been married for 18 years and share a 17-year-old daughter. He works for a delivery company, and she for a pharmaceutical company, and lately, they haven’t gotten much in the way of quality time.

Luckily for Burt, he can get some innocent attention elsewhere, like at the restaurant of one of his company’s clients, Mel. However, Mel’s cousin, Bella, takes things further, and in a moment of weakness, Burt gives in, setting up the events of the film that end deadly.

Highlights

It’s Not As Dramatic As It Could Be

As noted in Stokes and Houston’s last collaboration, “I Hate You To Death,” there is a shift with the duo where it no longer seems, like a lot of straight-to-ad-supported streaming, that it is all about having enough drama to hopefully go viral.

Instead, you can see a focus on the story, getting you into the relationships and complexities between characters and focusing more on how things can be gray than black and white. For example, did Burt have an affair? Yes. However, like many a Christmas movie, there is a push to not want to damn him as you see him genuinely happy with someone.

Now, does this erase the affair and the fact that Kate’s supposed sin is being too busy and unavailable? No. Yet, it makes it so you don’t really want to damn Bella, and when it comes to Burt, there is a slight feeling that things are complicated.

Which leads me to wonder, if in future movies, will they eventually remove that starter of someone in peril or dead, and explore further what can happen when you don’t seek out an audience through gimmicks but have them come naturally.
