Recap (Spoiler Free)
It’s been 9 months, but the casino is up and running, and the economic benefit isn’t just taxes and tourism; it’s new people finding their way to the Pynk. Heck, Roulette makes sure of it, and Uncle Clifford, while the two butt heads, surely isn’t against what Roulette and their girls are doing. Well, at least some of their hustles.
But, in Uncle Clifford’s defense, with them and Lil Murda still going strong, Roulette’s hustle isn’t the first thing on their mind. Plus, the Pynk has never had it so good, flushed with money, and with a whole new crop of girls, many trained by Mercedes, or soon to be, coming in.
However, while many familiar faces are doing okay, others remain unseen in the first episode of a two-part season premiere.

Review and Commentary
Highlights
Roulette As Top Girl [85/100]
After Hailey and Mercedes, we see Roulette as the star attraction of not necessarily The Pynk, but certainly of Uncle Clifford’s girls, and Gail Bean eats every scene. Her performance shows she was just waiting for an opportunity to shine, and now that she has it, she is going to prove it was overdue.
We see this in how she handles Whisper and the rest of the girls, tries Uncle Clifford, and her relationship with Duffy. It all gives lead-character vibes and shows why, long after this season of P-Valley was filmed, she ended up front and center in the Snowfall spin-off.
The Direction of Lil Murda’s Story [84/100]
A new character is introduced: Tremaybe ‘2 Trill’ Cage, who is supposed to be the next Master P in the Memphis area, a record-label owner doing things big. As you and I know, Lil Murda is a hood dude, has gang affiliation, and represents the framework of what it means to be masculine in Hip-Hop. But, at the same time, he is going long and strong with Uncle Clifford (pun potentially intended).
Now, of course, they try to be discreet, though Woddy knows what they’ve been into and isn’t afraid to push Uncle Clifford’s buttons to remind them they can’t go public. This is where 2 Trill comes in, since a record deal may come with strings attached. The kind that will surely raise your eyebrows, especially as rumors circulate around Chucalissa about how Lil Murda moves and who he is really seeing, all while trying to keep things quiet on the creek.
The Changing Dynamics Of Chucalissa [81/100]
While the Promised Land Casino, like most casinos, uplifts the community in some ways, with familiar faces and those with gang ties now working jobs that pay taxes, it hasn’t utterly changed Chucalissa. That’s clear in the many hustles played on easy marks and the things Duffy and Roulette believe they can get away with.

But outside of Promised Land, that is where things should really get interesting. Politics has always been a strong part of the P-Valley brand, and in the premiere, the politicians take an episode off. So, in the two-part premiere, I hope episode 2 shows whether they talk about what happened in the past 9 months and whether there’s been real change.
One thing they could explore is how some people who didn’t want to end up in gang life, part of Uncle Clifford’s crew, or in politics maybe used the Promised Land to lift themselves up. Yet they’re getting caught in the middle of all the egos and nonsense from those trying to exploit this new, lucrative opportunity.
You A Trick Or Treat? [82/100]
This episode’s relationship dynamics really pushed the idea that even if two people seem in love, maybe perfect for one another, that façade is delicate. Lil Murda and Uncle Clifford might be one of the cutest couples around, but Lil Murda’s career complicates things, and Uncle Clifford doesn’t like being a secret. Granted, as shown in the season 2 finale, they came out to Uncle Clifford’s people, but as for anyone beyond Woddy? Uncle Clifford is just a business associate.
Then with Roulette and Duffy? You and I know that man is an opportunist. But does he really care about Roulette, or does he just know how to keep his sugar momma happy? Does she just like the attention and his size, or is she really in a relationship with this man? Heck, given how Whisper acts behind Roulette’s back, does Roulette have anyone he can really count on? One phone call hints at someone else, but it’s not clear who yet.
Overall
Our Overall Rating [83/100]
Is it worth the wait of more than 4 years since the 2nd season finale in August 2022? Yeah. Even with four years passed, there is nothing like P-Valley, and in a sad way, there may never be something you could easily compare to it. So, enjoy this final season and make sure when you see the name Katori Hall, treat it the same way you would Spike Lee, Christopher Nolan, and others.
