General Information
- Roughly, everyone is around the age of 14 in season 1.
- The two main gangs of Freeridge, a neighborhood within Los Angeles, are The Prophet$ (mostly Black or Afro-Latinx) and The Santos (Predominantly Hispanic/Latinx).
- According to Monse, she and the guys have been friends since 4th grade but it is revealed that Cesar has known Ruby since Kindergarten.
- Monse allegedly kissed Ruby in 7th grade and Jamal in the 6th.
Notable Locations
Rollerwood
Where a massive amount ($250,000) of money was allegedly hidden in the 80s by Lil’ Ricky.
Freeridge High
The school everyone in the cast goes to in the town of Freeridge.
Brentwood
A local suburb, where Julia and Rose live, that is the complete opposite of Freeridge.

Diego Tinoco As Cesar
Character Introduction
First Noted In: Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1”
Cesar is perhaps the only member of his crew who doesn’t think he has much of a future ahead of him. Especially since all he knows is his family’s gang, the 16th Street Santos, which has been led by his family for generations.

Sierra Capri As Monse
Character Introduction
First Noted In Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1”
With a father who is constantly on the road and a mother who isn’t active in her life, it seems only natural that Monse plans to become a writer. After all, all that alone time means an active imagination. However, what she also plans for is keeping her chosen family, Cesar, Ruby, and Jamal together for they are the only ones she can depend on day in and day out. Not to imply she has a bad relationship with her dad but, plain and simple, he just isn’t physically there for her a lot.

- It is revealed in season 1, episode 8 that she is 13.
- Her mom left when she was 2.
- She was born in 2004.
- Monse’s name derives from a combination of her mother’s name, Selena, and dad’s name, Monty.
Jason Genao As Ruby (Ruben)

Ruby comes from a large, working-class family, but with expectations that he’ll become something. In season 1, it is established that Ruby is a feminist, a lover, but still a teenaged guy. Yet, his loyalty and dedication is unrivaled.

Julio Macias As Oscar

Oscar is Cesar’s older brother, also known as Spooky, and is the leader of the 19th street gang, The Santos. He is also a pedophile, by means of wanting Monse, who is underage and has only been out of jail for roughly 6 weeks.

- Oscar already has two strikes against him.
- He raised Cesar since their mom wasn’t reliable enough to raise his little brother properly.
- Was locked up at Corcoran.
- Was spelling bee champ during 7th and 8th grade, and wanted to go to the magnet school in Pasadena with the ultimate goal being becoming a cook.
- It’s revealed Oscar played a role in the truce between the Santos and Prophets.
Eme Ikwuakor As Dwayne

Dwayne is Jamal’s dad who was a football legend in high school. However, after an injury, he ended up just opening up a family business – cooking barbecue and relying on Jamal to pick up where he left off.

The eccentric Jasmine is often ostracized because she is a bit much. Mind you, she is very friendly and sweet, but she is also ghetto in ways Jamal, Monse, and Ruby don’t seem to want to be associated with. Well, unless they are fighting with one another or need one more person for what they are trying to do.

- She comes from a family of cops.
- Her dad is an Afghanistan veteran and it appears something happened to him which largely leaves him unresponsive.
Brett Gray As Jamal

First Noted In Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1”
A bit skittish, and definitely not someone you want to tell a secret to, Jamal is the oddball of the group. He believes conspiracy theories, is a bit of a pessimist, and while he can’t keep your secrets, he expects you to keep his. Like him not liking football because he fears CTE, among other things.

- Jamal’s storyline in season one mostly involves around finding the money left behind in RollerWorld.
- His grandmother lives in Tennessee.
- Jamal can usually keep secrets, at max, for 9 hours.

Ronni Hawk As Olivia

When Olivia is introduced to us, her parents are recently deported and she is noted as Ruby’s play cousin, by means of his mom. But she becomes much more than that as time goes on.

Peggy Ann Blow As Abuelita Marisol

Ruby’s grandmother, who he makes it seem is from Mexico, is a dressmaker. Also, despite being Ruby’s grandmother, she ends up closer to Jamal, by the end of the first season, than her grandson.

Frankie’s ex, and a former Soul Train dancer who lives in Brentwood, California. She also has a gold record and a #1 to her name.

- She gives Jamal information about Frankie and his friend Benito, who stole the RollerWood money and gives him information about Lil’ Ricky.
- Frankie, Benito, and Lil’ Ricky started the Freeridge Santos.
- Frankie was a football player.
- Lil’ Ricky took Santos from street hustlers to major players.
Lisa Marcos As Julia Whitman (Selena)
Character Introduction
First Noted In Season 1/ Episode 4 “Chapter 4”
Julia is Monse’s mom who abandoned her when she was 2 and later on had additional children.

- She’s a published author.
- One of her books is a sci-fi YA novel and the next one is planned to be a memoir.
- When she originally left, she went to New York.
- Her children, outside of Monse, are Cooper and Hayden.
- She lived in Paris for a year.
- It’s revealed in season 2 that she changed her name to Julia from Selena.
- She has two sisters who she hasn’t spoken to in years.
Raushanah Simmons As Fran

Like Jamal’s father, Jamal’s mom is a huge sports fan. She also is raising Jamal to be a proper kid. As in, he isn’t allowed to curse in her household.

Monty is Monse’s father who has mostly raised her by himself. Which has been hard for him since he is often on the road and thus isn’t physically there for his daughter like he wants. Yet, despite that, Monse knows that is how money comes into the household so while not happy, she doesn’t flip out on him too much about it.

Emilio Rivera As Chivo
Character Introduction
First Noted In Season 1/ Episode 7 “Chapter 7”
Chivo runs Mr. Greenthumb Nursery and is the cousin of Lil’ Ricky. Also, he is someone who has a deep relationship with a gone named Julio. Someone, or rather something, who he had previous issues with due to Julio thinking Chivo stole his woman Juanita.

- Lil’ Ricky helped Chivo start Mr. Greenthumb nursey.
- We also learn Lil’ Ricky was against violence.
- It’s revealed the names of his gnomes are that of the people who died in his life with Lil’ Ricky not having his own gnome for his spirit lives in all of them.
- Chivo makes fake IDs on the side.
Shoshana Bush As Amber

Amber is a girl Mario got pregnant in college who, with being kicked out of her parent’s home, now lives in Geny’s. Which gets on Geny’s nerves since Amber tries to be culturally sensitive, sometimes, but it often just comes out being low-key offensive.

First actually seen in season 1, giving advice to Cesar about Monse, Officer Hamill shows up again in season 2 and it’s revealed his life is a bit of a mess by Jasmine. He has issues with his ex-wife, who took half his money, and that is giving him issues with his current girlfriend for losing that money leads to fears of commitment.

How Does Season 1 End for the Characters of Netflix’s On My Block
Cesar & Monse
After Monse ducking and dodging being public about her feelings for Cesar, during Olivia’s quince they finally become official.
Ruby & Olivia
In the end, Ruby got his girl after many a gallant effort. Unfortunately, due to Cesar showing Latrelle mercy, he and Olivia are shot with their fates to be revealed in season 2 (trailers make it seem Ruby lives but Olivia… well)
Mario
Mario is alive and well and, like Ruby, a bit girl crazy.
Oscar
When we last see Oscar he is pushing Cesar to handle his business with Latrelle so his dreams of becoming an architect, buying a house on a beach, and getting his brother a restaurant can come true.
Dwayne & Jamal’s Mom
In the end, though they would love for Jamal to continue his father’s legacy, they don’t press him on it.
Latrelle

We don’t see her after the episode she is introduced in.
Julia
After meeting Julia, and her making it clear she is likely Monse’s mom, we don’t see her again. In fact, Monse unfriends her on Facebook – using her fake account.
Coach
Outside of the football game, we don’t see Coach.
Monty
As during most of the season, Monty is on the road.
Chivo
When we last see Chivo, he is still in a hospital bed recovering from Jamal destroying one of his gnomes in front of him.
How Does Season 2 End For The Characters of Netflix’s On My Block?
Monse, Ruby, Jamal, Cesar
After Monse reveals she is going to an all-girls school in New Hampshire, which none of the boys believe, they all get kidnapped.
Jasmine
While we see a lot of growth from Jasmine, she is still her wonderfully weird self and is yelling at some boy for not responding to her nude pictures.
Oscar
With him, alongside Cesar, planting dirty money on the Prophet$, and them being arrested in masse, he may finally have peace. As well as Ruby who learns Latrelle was taken down in the raid.
Mario
After the Amber debacle, he heads back to school. No word of whether he tried to reconcile with Angelica.
Geny, Ruben Sr., Dwayne, Jamal’s Mom, Monty
All the parents are just fine.
Julia (Selena)
After Monse tells her off and questions if she would have taken her if she was light skinned, we don’t see or hear from Julia again. She isn’t even noted as sending a text message.
Abuelita (Marisol)
Jamal’s confidant and biggest supporter reveals that her support shouldn’t be taken too seriously. She is someone who believes in UFOs, even claims she was abducted, and the chupacabra so her belief system is rather liberal.
Officer Hamill
It isn’t made clear if his relationship drama clears up, but we do know he is still on the force.
Coach Ron
Despite Jamal running off and not paying what was due for the football field, we don’t see him nag Jamal about it after the Valentine’s Day party.
Rosario, Paula, Sahara, Jane
We don’t see any of these women after their intial appearance. Rosario doesn’t get a follow up visit, Paula doesn’t come around and say she is pregnant, and the girls never leave Brentwood.
