Highlight(s)
What’s Possible & What Is [/100]
There is nothing more heartbreaking than when you see someone have potential and realize, because of where they are from, what they are exposed to, and the long path from where they are now to where you think they could be, anything could happen. What Jamarcus Rose & Da 5 Bullet Holes remind you of is all the ways people try to prevent the worst-case scenario.
Yes, your parents may not be around, maybe you live in an urban area, but then there are people like Jasper who not only made it out, but seemingly are willing to bring the ladder down so you can too. They know how tough it is, are willing to use their network, what they learned, and when they speak to you, it isn’t talking down to you. Instead, it is like they get to remove that armor, relax their posture, remove the second-guessing which comes from code-switching, and get back to their core.
Also, and this is why programs like Big Brothers and Big Sisters are important, it removes the idea for many that to make it, you need to be in entertainment. Jasper went to school for IT and met his wife that way. He’s cool, athletic enough, married, and has a blueprint type of life. Seeing that as an option, a tangible person you can call, text, not just see once in person, if you’re lucky, and then only in media, is so important. That accessibility matters.
Which isn’t to say Jamarcus Rose & Da 5 Bullet Holes boils down to an advertisement for Big Brothers and Big Sisters, but it does reinforce that community, whether it is your grandmother or someone from your area, matters. Otherwise, if desperation is allowed to seep in, you increase the chance of choosing a short-term solution that will create a long-term problem.
Overall
Our Rating (83/100): Positive (Worth Seeing)
Jamarcus Rose & Da 5 Bullet Holes was a wonderful way to end 2025. It was emotional, forces you to reflect on who and what allowed you to get as far as you did, and acts as a reminder that paying it forward isn’t just about paying your taxes and donating money; if and when possible, you also need to donate your time. Not just to friends and family, but the next generation when they are still in that stage where they are potentially on the bubble, not when you are at the point where you can hire people, and you get the pick of the litter.
