Recap
Love Me, Adore Me: Fritz, Tae, Rocky, Husieen, Rose, Cisco
With the second group, height is a major factor, as men like Husieen find themselves very popular for not only passing the 6-foot threshold but being a whole 6’7 “. For ladies like Rose, who is only 5’2”, this is attractive. Add in that he is into interior design and, like the majority of the men, has no issue with her having a son. Both find themselves as top-tier.
However, Tae takes the cake as there isn’t a man amongst the group who can say something negative about her, and while Cisco does note he cheated in the past, the muscles he has lead to her reasoning, “He was young when he did that.” Which leaves Rocky and Fritz. When it comes to Rocky, she may not be the most liked, but she is on the board, and Fritz? Because he is Mr. International, he is a hot commodity and gives the men a run for their money.
It’s Not Completely You, But It Certainly Isn’t Me: Shanice, Sahara, Coley, Cam, Will, Calil
Starting with Shanice, similar to Cisco, she has a certain routine she has upheld that has gotten in the way of dating. But while Cisco has a personality outside of his routine, Shanice doesn’t present one to the guys. She just works, exercises, goes home and repeats, and her just talking about work leads to many of the men losing interest. The same could be said for Coley, who is a beautiful woman but only gives surface-level conversations, and even in her confessionals, she presents superficial desires for a partner, like them being tall.
Now, as for Will and Sahara, who are on their second chances, they don’t do things differently. Will sticks with making jokes and gets more and more awkward after each interaction and Sahara? Well, on top of being who she is, she reveals she is a flat-earther. Which definitely knocks down her rank a bit.
But what about Cam and Calil? Cam’s issue is that, while he doesn’t say he is an atheist, he makes it appear that, especially compared to his parents, religion and spirituality aren’t of the utmost importance to him. He is open to dating someone who is more spiritual or religious, but his not being so raises red flags. As for Calil? His sole problem is honing in on Rocky for as much as Tommy might be quick to talk about people not running game; ultimately, “Ready To Love” is a dating show, and the name of the game is to mix, mingle, or get eliminated and potentially finding your person too early can get you penalized.
Mix and Mingle Or Go Home Single: Will, Calil, Shanice, Coley
Ultimately, the bottom two men end up being Will and Calil, and while Calil focused too much on one woman, Rocky goes to bat for him and saves his skin. As for Will, he got eliminated twice and to add insult to injury, Tommy points this out, lowkey embarrassing the man. To note, though, Sahara having a second chance isn’t noted.
As for the ladies? To some surprise, Shanice is told she will continue the journey, and, initially, Coley is to be eliminated. Now, to show Coley is a Philly girl when given a chance for another week, she originally says no, curse words included, but changes her tune when she learns there will be other men. So, just in case you thought the episode trailers were made up to throw you off, that isn’t the case. Coley is likely in for the long haul.
End Game
- Next Eliminated (Women): Sahara, to me, is going to be knocked out of the competition if the men get to sit down and talk to each other formally. Between the dreaded homie vibes and revealing herself to be a flat Earther, I don’t think she has much of a chance.
- Next Eliminated (Men): Naeem having five kids and three baby mommas is going to be the end of his time on “Ready To Love.” He seems like a good dude, but that’s a lot of kids, and it seems while two kids can be accepted, beyond that creates an eyebrow raise.
- End Game Couples: Rocky and Calil are the first potential end-game couple, and I’d submit Rose and Husieen had the kind of chemistry that could take them to the end as well. Lastly, it would seem Tae, who is not only social but has the general attitude of being happy to be there, could make it to the end with someone.

Highlights
- The “Character” Build [82/100]
When it comes to who was introduced in this episode, I think there was a better effort to flesh out who is who and make every individual stand out, whether they were a man or woman. Even for those who didn’t reveal much like Coley, they had stand out moments, like when she cursed at the idea of being given a second chance with the same people, that helps you understand why the credits include a performance coach.
Now, this isn’t to say the moment was scripted, even though this season has presented the idea, through the confessionals, there is some sense that they are being pushed to say certain things. But, considering “Ready To Love” isn’t just about inspiring hope of finding Black love, but also entertainment, it is nice to see the constant shifting to try to balance the two, even if we often feel like the entertainment can get in the way of the bigger picture.
Trajectory
Trajectory (82/100): Plateau
We may always have reservations when it comes to how “Ready To Love” operates as a show, but the majority of our frustration will always come from a place of not having alternatives but refusing to settle for what we have. But, I will always note that when things are good, they are good, and when there are notable stumbles, there is hope things can improve.
This episode was better than the first, and while the balance between message and entertainment is still a balancing act, you have to remember that “Ready To Love” has no peers and little to no precedents on what to do and how to do it, so it has to pave its own way, which means, even after all these seasons, a bit of grace through your own frustration.
