Episode 13 “Reunion Part 1” Storylines/ Recap

Tread Lightly: Fritz, Shanice, Cam, Tru, Khalil, Sahara

The entire episode was about people getting their lick back. But some got it worse than others. Fritz, despite how he handled things with Sahara and the things he said to her, got it the least. However, it isn’t because he had his own good defense but because Shanice came to defend her connection.

Note: she didn’t have any issue with the ladies, but did home in on Cam, leading to one of his many call outs, based on him seeking advice on maybe voting Sahara off, never mind him talking about being her (Shanice’s) boy toy. He counters, later on, saying it was her coming onto him sexually, but considering who calls him out, how often he gets called out, and about what, his defense was weak.

In some ways, the same could be said regarding the beef between Tru and Khalil. Between the phone number thing and her age, both end up looking silly. Naeem barely even engages in the situation since, while he may have his own things going on, he isn’t trying to be in the middle of the drama like many seem willing to be. However, he is very entertained by it all when backstage.

Shots Fired: Rose, Husieen, Angie, Tae

Husieen, being in the hot seat, ends up becoming the warm-up for Rose. After Tae talks to her, as Rose is struggling emotionally with the weight of being out on the couch, Tae gives her permission to let the men have it, and that is just what she does. Husieen is first up, and she calls him out for ending things over her ex and tries to fire a shot at him about him potentially being incarcerated in the past.

Angie, who is watching on, stirs the pot a bit, but apparently, while Husieen did get in trouble in college, he was never booked. In fact, he takes offense that Rose would even bring this up, never mind embellish the situation. But, in her defense, she is hurt, and even Angie feels a certain type of way about Husieen taking the coward’s way out, and even downplaying their journey a bit.

Gasoline and Flames: Cam, Sahara, Rose, Angie

While we have seen many a man find himself in multiple crosshairs, I feel like Cam was going for a record. Whether it is Sahara noting his lack of effort in terms of dating, Angie cursing him out over something she thought Cam was saying or Rose? The man never had a moment of peace and like for most, it is hard to take his side since there is a lot of things which happened behind the scenes.

For example, Rose reveals she and Cam have had sex, and apparently, he was messing with other people, not just her, based on her finding used condoms. Also, Cam has a history of cheating and apparently may want an open relationship just so that, if ever tempted, he can say so and not lose the relationship in the process.

I mean, generally speaking, Tommy has needed to stir the pot a little bit, maybe up the drama, but in this episode? For this reunion? All he could really do was be in shock and ask for clarity. Not even for the audience but himself.

Highlights

The Drama Was Next Level [88/100]

Ready To Love is all about the drama, and while it sucks to say that about such a long-running dating show, focused on Black folk, let’s not forget, this is what OWN is about at this point. It’s about seeing people, middle-class, upper-middle-class, showing that no matter how much money you may have, what you may have accomplished, there are people who can bring out all the things people would never associate you with.

I guess you could say it shows how multifaceted Black people are, as they can show women like Shanice go from sweet and caring to calling out someone like a dog who pissed on the carpet. Never mind, women like Rose, who seem like the type who, when calling you “Baby,” it feels like a badge of honor, but at the same time they will drag your business right to the curb for the world to see – while admitting their own stuff to squash any reason you could fathom that what is being said is a lie.

And mind you, while the women are saying the most, we can’t discount that this is all like Angie said – these men want someone demure, submissive, who will take their BS and will get mad when they get called out on it. Never mind, like Cam, be shocked and appalled when the woman react, just because they don’t take accountability for how they made someone feel.

It all is so messy, and while a part of me loves it, I will forever be saddened by how this show consistently turns out this way.

Overall

Our Overall Rating [88/100]

Ready To Love continues to deliver the drama fans and show that no amount of success or social standing exempts people from the pitfalls and potential chaos of dating. Especially in terms of someone bringing you out of character as they touch all your sensitive nerves.
