The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity: Season 1 Episode 2 – Recap and Review

While Rintaro and Kaoruko show themselves to be overthinkers, also being communicative may save viewers from (some) potential headaches.

Transcript of Video

  1. Intro Slide
  2. Recap: The beef between Chidori HS and Kikyo is going to create quite the problem for Kaoruko and Rintaro, as neither of their friend groups seems like they may be supportive.
  3. Recap: Mind you, for some, like Usami, the issue is that they want a girlfriend and the rejection hurts. For others, like Saku, there is a cold level of indifference.
  4. Recap: But, with Kaoruko willing to push through, and the overthinking Rintaro willing to as well, both push past their Romeo and Juliet-style school issue and communicate so that they can be friends.
  5. Recap: Though it seems clear to viewers and Rintaro’s mom, Kyoko, that while the two may start as friends, if they continue on this path, they are likely to evolve to something more.

    • Review: I appreciate the level of communication and vulnerability we get in this episode. Whether it is Rintaro’s friends letting him know he can talk to them, or him asking his mom for advice *Chef’s Kiss*
    • Review: Add in Rintaro and Kaoruko’s willingness, ability, and desire to communicate with one another, explain away any awkwardness, and get past it; it gives me hope for what’s to come.
    • Review: Never mind, it pushes the idea that, while there is always the chance of being frustrated by what Rintaro and Kaoruko’s friends may say and do, at least the core relationship should hold steady.
    • Review: With that said, though, I would love to know what started the beef, or who, between the two schools, unless it is purely the idea that private school girls shouldn’t interact with low-tier public school boys.
    • Overall (83/100): A lot of romance anime can become frustrating since a lack of communication and assumptions lead to drama. It seems, though, The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity may sidestep this, and frankly, THANK GOD!
