Episode 8 “The Meaning Of These Feelings” Storylines/ Recap
With the friends of Rintaro and Kaoruko meeting, apologizing to one another, and getting along, it is full speed ahead when it comes to Rintaro and Kaoruko’s relationship. Mind you, they aren’t dating, but they do go to the aquarium together in what looks like to everyone else like a date. But, by the end of it, Rintaro comes to realize that, while it may not have been an official date, both he and Kaoruko have feelings for each other and, believe it or not, a kindergartener is who pushes him to realize what he has been trying to deny himself.

While it was wonderful to see Subaru and the boys make up and even become friends, the real meat of the episode was the date which wasn’t officially a date. Now, in true fashion for the show, nothing about it was grandeur, they just went to an aquarium. However, you can’t discount the usual nervousness, the type of conversations which feel overtly ideal yet oh so desirable and ultimately, this feeling that The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, has no desire to move faster than it has to.
Which, yes, can be a tad annoying, but the show has to fill 13 episodes and it is hard to say if the build up could match the two leads actually being in a relationship. If not, maybe there being a chance they want to save that for a second season, with this one ending with the relationship becoming official? It’s hard to say what they’ll do, but I do find myself going back and forth between the idea of enjoying the pace but also wishing it led to milestones a bit quicker.
