Episode 7 “Coolest Guy Ever” Storylines/ Recap

With it weighing heavily on Rintaro that he has become slowly but surely estranged from his friends, he asks Subaru and Kaoruko if he can talk to Saku, Ayato, and Usami about them hanging out. The girls are for it; Subaru even mentions wanting to meet them to apologize. But what Rintaro doesn’t realize is that the boys were already stalking him, with Usami leading the charge for Saku to apologize.

Good thing too, since the guys who cornered Kaoruko early on in the season try to jump Rintaro, and overwhelm him in a numbers game. Luckily, his friends were there, Ayato especially, to handle that situation. However, it isn’t until the following day that Saku and Rintaro make up, which leads to Rintaro feeling like his old self.

Highlights

The Brotherhood [85/100]

While Kaoruko and Rintaro’s relationship is often the main focus of The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, this episode acted as a reminder that she isn’t the only one who matters in Rintaro’s life. His brotherhood, in a similar fashion to Subaru’s friendship with Kaoruko, means the world to him. It is through them that he has felt less ostracized, felt supported, a sense of belonging, and keeping secrets from them, pushing them away when they check up on him, you can see the effect it had.

From the stress to his inability to perform as an athlete, then even getting a taste of Saku, who has noted his own love and care for Rintaro in the past, seeing this was incredibly moving, to the point of getting teary-eyed.

How Rintaro And His Friends Are Creating An Opportunity To Heal For Subaru [82/100]

Though it remains unclear if maybe Saku was one of Subaru’s past bullies, you do have to appreciate how much Rintaro showing himself to care about how she feels, her comfort, and also Kaoruko is changing her opinion of men. Then, add on Usami stepping up when the other guys showed up and touched her without her consent? I think it is creating some level of grey for her when it comes to guys, so while she might still be cautious, the default may not be to assume the worst and have them work to show they are different.

Overall

Our Overall Rating [83/100]
