Plot Recap

Poppa – Akira, Tendo

As the day ends, Akira, once again, tries to connect with his father, and while his father was curt upon his arrival, he decides to open up over drinks. He lets Akira into his dreams of being an astronaut and, despite all that is happening, continues to push Akira to dream big.

It even seems he doesn’t blame Akira for taking so long to visit for he saw how big of a world there was outside the village, and with Tendo himself having desires for adventure and to see the world, he gets it. Thus leading the two to have the moment Akira longed for, luckily before it was too late.

Settling In – Kencho, Shizuka, Anju, Beatrix

While Shizuka is helping out, and one piece of medical advice leads many to think she is a doctor, Kencho is trying to figure out what he can do. So, with wanting to be an entertainer, he befriends this girl named Anju, who doesn’t take to him at first, under the assumption he is a predator. However, in time, he wins her over, even with being his type of weird.

As for Beatrix? She learns about the additional defense created to protect the villagers from wildlife and how it is powered.

They’re All Going To Die Anyway – Akira, Higurashi

Taking note of the village’s weaknesses, Higurashi and his crew prep for its destruction. The electric fence that is meant to keep zombified animals out with a mild shock is raised to the point that it would hurt humans as well – thus trapping the villagers inside. Also, the barrier at the tunnel is removed, which means a horde of zombies make way into the village.

Then, to make matters worse, Higurashi and his team fire guns, throw dynamite, and set fires to cause further chaos. But the kicker here is, this who thing is partly personal. Higurashi went to college with Akira for a little while and hated who he was and his joy. So destroying the foundation of that? It makes him happy.

However, Higurashi didn’t think about Akira fighting back and the battle that ensued.

Anju, nicknamed Angie by Kencho, is a little girl who seemingly lost everything but her dog Charo.

Higurashi (Okamoto Nobuhiko)

Higurashi (Okamoto Nobuhiko) laughing maniacally
Higurashi (Okamoto Nobuhiko) laughing maniacally

Higurashi is the anti-Akira. Where Akira is joyful and loving, Higurashi is envious, hateful, and destructive. In fact, even beyond the post-Zombie apocalypse world, Higurashi was Akira’s opposite since he was a NEET previously, rather than working himself to the bone.

Review

Notable Performances or Moments

A True, Formidable Villain

I love anti-Akira. I enjoy his wickedness, how his plan is basically just to cause chaos with reckless abandon. The only thing that could make this better is understanding his minions more.

Highlights

Akira Bonding With His Dad

Tendo (Sasaki Yuuko) encouraging his son to dream
Tendo (Sasaki Yuuko) encouraging his son to dream

Considering how Tendo was upon introduction, us later seeing him drink with his son, open up about his dreams, and even encourage his son to keep on dreaming was sweet. Pair that with Akira taking note of his father aging and the hints that Tendo’s health isn’t where it used to be in the last episode, and it makes me hope Tendo doesn’t end up hurt or dying in the season finale.
