Through My Window 3: Looking At You – Movie Review and Summary

The final entry in the “Through My Window” franchise, “Through My Window – Looking At You,” might be the best one yet, partly thanks to the 2nd movie removing a certain character.

Plot Summary

The final “Through My Window” movie truly wraps up the trilogy as we see Raquel have her last “Should I or shouldn’t I” with Ares, as he seemingly has moved on with Vera, and she with Gregory, while Anna lurks in the background.

As that happens, Artemis and Claudia are facing the idea of becoming parents soon, and with Artemis, thanks to Vera’s parents, seemingly able to revive his family’s company, that puts added pressure on Ares to make his relationship work.

As for Apolo and Daniela? There is a bit of a tit-for-tat going on. Neither consistently put the other one first, and with Apolo again made into the steady thing as Daniela explores, he takes up time with a young man. Apolo’s exploration of his interest in men, specifically this one guy, seems to push Daniela to realize what may be lost due to her flirting too much with others, even if she wasn’t serious about them.

Raquel

Awaiting her first book being published in the spring, Raquel’s career might be about to skyrocket, but until then, she is just a regular young woman. She works at a Christmas shop to make some money, isn’t fond of her mom’s new boyfriend, and struggles with moving on from an ex because of how intense that relationship was.

Ares

The middle child of his family, Ares finds himself in a predicament as he is with the wonderful Vera, whose parents are proposing a major investment, or partnership, with his family’s company. Yet, while kind, Vera isn’t someone he loves as much as his ex.

Vera

Vera devolves a bit in this entry to being Ares’ girlfriend and to Ares and his family, a key player in her parents’ investment.

Gregory

Raquel (Clara Galle) and Gregory (Ivan Lapadula) running into Vera and Ares

Gregory, similar to Vera, has been diminished. He is now simply a person a lead character is dating, with Gregory’s most notable bit being delivering to Anna why Yoshi died.

Anna

Anna (Carla Tous)
Anna (Carla Tous)

Anna is Gregory’s little sister and one of the few who consistently say Yoshi’s name throughout the movie or remind us he isn’t alive.

Artemis

Being CEO of his family’s company and aiming for president, Artemis finds himself under immense pressure as his dad’s expectations clash with him trying to be a better partner to Claudia and father to his future kid than his dad was.

Claudia

Pregnant and still adjusting to dating her former employer’s son and the culture clashes between them, Claudia is doing better yet still finds herself questioning if she made the right decision.

Apolo

Apolo (Hugo Arbues) talking to a guy he likes

With growing tired of Daniela being hot and cold and often making him feel like a steady option as she explores what it would be like to mess around with other people, Apolo decides he can play that game and develops a relationship with a guy he meets.

Daniela

Daniela (Natalia Azahara) thinking about Yoshi

Yoshi’s death has made Daniela take better stock of her relationships, especially as Raquel’s career ticks up and Apolo makes it clear he isn’t going to just stand by while she flirts and potentially hooks up with random people, which forces her to mature a little bit.

Highlights

You Don’t Even Miss Yoshi

While Yoshi was the worst kind of nice guy there is, with him being a part of the first two movies and dying in the second, there was the question of what the movie would be like without him. The answer is great. You don’t have this dude pining for what should be his best friend, mad he is never chosen, and then existing in the background, waiting for his chance for when Raquel’s boyfriend messes up, and he hopes he will get his chance.

In fact, this movie makes me wonder how much better the first two movies could have been if it wasn’t for Yoshi.

Far More Invested In Raquel and Ares

It’s hard to say if what makes us finally get into Raquel and Ares is because Yoshi isn’t trying to get in the middle, or it seemed Raquel moved on for a hot minute. However, even with them sneaking around throughout the movie, something just seemed right.

Now, as we’ve said in many a holiday movie, we don’t condone cheating whatsoever, and it pretty much kills any sort of romance. But one thing that seems clear from the jump is that, Raquel and Gregory, similar to Ares and Vera, look good on paper. They are even compatible enough to be friends, even lovers, but as for long-term potential? It’s not there.

But it should be noted that the cheating isn’t as weird as in most films. You know Raquel and Ares are end game, so Vera and Gregory seem like non-factors. I mean, Raquel rejected Gregory in the second movie, and Vera made an odd move with Ares in the second movie, but neither were truly into the other since their focus was elsewhere. So, starting off this movie with people they basically rejected in the second movie definitely pushes the idea that Gregory and Vera are placeholders, and the movie doesn’t do much to dissuade you.

This includes showing Gregory and Raquel having sex.

An Imperfect Balance Between Getting Just Enough While Wanting More From Many Characters

Following the highlight of the second movie, nearly everyone has a story, but you’re only given enough to remind you their lives don’t revolve around Ares and Raquel. Daniela and Apolo are going through something as the power dynamics in their relationship shift. With becoming a father on the horizon, Artemis is starting to take note of who his family is compared to Claudia’s, on top of his future at his family’s company to provide for his child.

Lesser so, there is also Anna, who is perhaps the main one who reminds you Yoshi existed, and I’ll admit, I badly wished they gave her more to do than hate on Raquel potentially having someone. But, while this is the end of Raquel’s story, a spin-off with the beginning of Anna’s wouldn’t be the worst thing. She is the youngest of all the characters and barely got to begin her journey with Yoshi.

Time Flew By & It Didn’t Feel Reliant On Sex To Keep You Engaged

Most of the films in this franchise have felt long and broken up by sex scenes. This film seemed to have gotten down the formula in, yes, giving us a few sex scenes and a touch of nudity, but not being reliant on that to keep you watching. Instead, even with a good idea of how this will end, you want to see the journey to that point.

What would be the thing that led to Ares and Raquel breaking up with their current person, and what would trigger them getting back together? Would Daniela or Apolo be the one to make the first move to reconcile? What about Artemis? With him truly becoming family with Claudia, how is that going to work? Heck, considering Vera is going through something similar to what Artemis did, since her true love isn’t necessarily her parents’ first choice, how will that play out?

With knowing this is the final movie, a lot of this runs through your head and the execution is surprisingly good, considering how things were in the first two movies.

On The Fence

The Storylines Of The Parents

Nobody’s parents presented any sort of hook in this film. Raquel’s mom dating and her catching an attitude with the guy was not interesting. The little bit we see of Ares and Vera’s parents? It makes them forgettable, and while Claudia’s people seem nice, I couldn’t name a single one of them, and honestly, I was fine with this.

I was also glad that, not to double down on how Yoshi was a cancer, but I’m also glad his parents were nowhere to be seen, and pretty much, if you were older than Artemis, your role and storyline was minimal.
