Film Summary
Sara is a sweet and vulnerable girl who apparently only has her sister, Julie, to talk to. But with Julie having long left the family home, all Sara has is her parents. That is until a traumatic night leads to her waking up with her parents gone and a man named Nick in her house claiming to be her husband. This is confusing to Sara, alongside learning she attempted to commit suicide, and she spends most of the movie trying to regain her memories and unravel what is going on.

Sara
Sara is a young woman who loves her parents and doesn’t seem to get out much. Which is perhaps why she seems like the perfect target for the supernatural and people willing to exploit her naivety.
Julie
Julie is Sara’s older sister, who has pretty much moved on from being Sara’s everything, and while she maintains contact, she isn’t a consistent physical presence.
Nick
Nick presents himself as Sara’s husband after the tragic event that happened on Sara and Julie’s parent’s anniversary. However, there is something off about him.

Highlights
Quality “What The F***?” Factor
Watching this in the middle of the night may not give you nightmares, but it sets the perfect scene. For as you see these characters move about, giving you strong Rosemary’s Baby vibes, it makes you wonder what’s real and what’s not? What are these visions of a priest, a man with a dead pig’s head? Why did Julie and Sara’s mom [tooltips keyword=”SPOILER” content=”so violently killed their dad than cut her own throat?”]?
In the film, you are given less of a mystery and more of a horror which does rely on shock value, but it never seems to want the story to become secondary to graphic scenes or strange moments. It wants them on par, which feels quite rare.

The Payoff Is Eh
With that said, the ending doesn’t necessarily pop. Considering what Sara goes through, it makes sense, but it creates the kind of ellipsis that makes you glad this isn’t a long movie. Otherwise, you’d be quite frustrated since you don’t get a definitive ending.
Overall
Our Rating: Mixed (Divisive)
For an indie movie with a small cast, you have to give props to The Free Fall for being creepy, if not outright disturbing, and presenting the kind of confusing moments which pushes you to think a bit. Now, I wouldn’t say this is a cerebral film at all, but it does make you question Sara’s sanity and what is going on around her. Thus leading to you getting invested and being committed till the end.
