Review and Commentary
On The Fence
An Interesting Premise That Doesn’t Go Where You Wish It Would [73/100]
At the heart of “The Accused” is a conspiracy involving pharmaceutical companies and the exploitation of diseases and ailments Black Americans are predisposed to. Like with many BET+ productions, such as “Sugar Baby,” it is undeniable that there is a good idea at the root of the film. The problem, however, is the execution.
“The Accused,” with its backstabbing and corruption, doesn’t tap much into the conspiracy and make it noteworthy. Instead, it’s a cat-and-mouse style film where Dani, despite no notable training, is evading trained officers, somehow not dying in the process, and you are expected to suspend disbelief, maybe a bit too far.
All the while, you have characters set up for dry jokes, like a character being named “Felicia” strictly for a “Bye Felicia” joke, a story that doesn’t really serve the idea everything is supposed to build off, and the characters in general? The sole reason you can say anyone stands out is that the actor just so happened to have a notable amount of screen time. But, as for their actual performances? No one pushes you to want to praise them or check out what they might be doing next.
In most ways imaginable, “The Accused” feels generic and unremarkable, despite its potential.
Overall
Our Rating (73/100): Mixed (Divisive)
When it comes to “The Accused,” it isn’t something that gives you much reason to keep your BET+ subscription (beyond waiting on the next season of “The Ms. Pat Show“) or to jump on and subscribe. Its content, which, if BET could afford to have a higher output, would quickly be lost in the ethos of its titles.
But, since BET+ doesn’t release too many productions a month, don’t be tricked into thinking this is the latest and greatest. It’s just something new that is barely worth having on for background noise – and that’s just for data to make it appear someone supported this film so BET will keep making original productions, and hopefully find one which honors a good premise.

Brewster’s Millions: Christmas (2024): Review and Summary
“Brewster’s Millions Christmas,” like many movies using name recognition for a boost, feels like it didn’t and shouldn’t have used its predecessor as a crutch, for this one could have stood on its own.

The Day Before Christmas (2024): Review and Summary
“The Day Before Christmas” gives you a corny but likable romance building around Christmas.

Sugar Baby (2025) Review
“Sugar Baby” is strangely not as explicit as the TV-MA rating would lead you to believe and fits the mold of being too tame despite its subject matter.
