“A Fall From Grace” Plot Summary/ Review (Spoilers on 2nd Page)

Jasmine has built up a reputation for doing plea deals, so when it comes to Grace Waters’ high profile case, her boss sends her off to get one and wash his hands of it. However, for the first time, Jasmine finds herself believing a client is innocent so she has Grace tell her story and picks through it in hopes of getting her acquitted.

Question(s) Left Unanswered

  1. Where was Grace’s son after pleading with Jasmine to take his mom’s case?

Highlights

It Really Proves Some Films Have To Be Seen In A Theater

We do not believe you need a big screen, booming Dolby sound system, and the most uncomfortable chairs a company can buy to truly experience the movies. Honestly, one of the top reasons to go see films, like what Tyler Perry produces, is the audience’s reaction. Most of the fun is hearing people comment about who they think is guilty, cracking jokes on wigs, and things of that nature. And with watching this at home, honestly, you get one of the few valid reasons why the theater still matters – beyond being much more lucrative for distributors vs. releasing it straight out into the wild.

The Film Will Get A Reaction Out Of You

Nearly every character will inspire an emotion. Be it Jordan seeming like an utter dumba**, you wanting to applaud Jasmine when you think she is doing something, rolling your eyes as Grace plays boo-boo the fool and so many more moments. Though, it is probably the last 15 to 20 minutes that will make you likely say something out loud. For truly, similar to “Confessions of a Marriage Counselor,” Perry shows that when he has the right cast to handle his drama, he knows how to take you on a roller coaster ride.

The Performances

While many, rightfully so, question Perry’s writing style and his formula, there is no denying that the people associated with his work usually can bring out something unexpected. Be it Kimberly Elise, Lynn Whitfield, Angela Bassett, and now Phylicia Rashad, Bresha Webb, and Crystal Fox, they enhance his script in ways which make them appear legendary. For example, Fox, as Grace, gives you everything you need to feel her frustration in your shoulders, to feel this need to press on your molars, and maybe grind your teeth. Webb’s need to prove herself makes you feel exhausted, a bit hopeless and feeling that, just as things could get better, another obstacle is thrown in your way.

However, Rashad? Oh, she takes the cake. She further reminds you that while she is legendary for Mrs. Huxtable, that should just be considered the entry point to you knowing about her career. Because, let me tell you, more so in the spoilers on the second page, you will love her.

Criticism

How Jordan Is Written

You ever feel like a husband, girlfriend, whatever, was written in just to prove the lead has had sex and is considered attractive? If not to make it so the question of, “Why don’t they have a (whatever)?” can be avoided? Jordan seems to fit that purpose. For while he is a cop, he is a terrible cop. I’m talking handcuffing people and then telling them to stay as if they will just sit there like obedient dogs. Which, the first time we see it, it is honestly funny. However, the second time leads you to wonder if he is dumb and Jasmine married him due to him being pleasant to look at?

On The Fence

Shannon and Grace’s Relationship

Relationships in this film just are lackluster. The wooing is weak, the men are generic props with abs, and while Shannon does enough for you to be glad what happens to him happens, Grace falling for him and his BS will make you give her the side-eye. Even if it has been more than a decade since someone touched her.

Overall

Would Watch Again? – Worth Revisiting

Rating: Mixed (Divisive)

“A Fall From Grace” is not the kind of movie you watch alone. You need that one friend who talks during movies to be there to truly enjoy the experience, as intended. Otherwise, as much as the performances are above average for Perry, and the ending is truly superb, it just isn’t the same. Also, for those not into Tyler Perry, I can already tell you this won’t change your opinion. You can skip this one, this is for fans, and those of us who say that reluctantly, only.

“A Fall From Grace” Ending Spoilers

Shannon is actually Sarah’s son, and they have been working cons together for 25 years. Sarah has trapped and taken money from the elderly as Shannon has stolen from middle-aged women who maybe thought of themselves as cougars when really they were fools. However, for Shannon, things end for Jasmine discovers all the seniors being kept in Sarah’s basement after Alice, one of Sarah’s “tenants” lets it slip that she is being held captive. Following that, Jordan comes looking for his wife, gets into a tussle with Shannon, and then Jasmine takes her husband’s gun and shoots Shannon multiple times.

As for Sarah? Well, Jordan, being the dumba** he is, for the second time that day, handcuffs someone and then expects them to stay where they are. So Sarah escapes and finds a new elderly person to take advantage of and Grace, thanks to the big reveal of what Shannon and Sarah do, is acquitted. Now, as for whether Jasmine got tried for murder at all, or Jordan claimed he shot? Well, that isn’t said.

Is A Sequel Possible?

Grace outright says it isn’t over and with Sarah starting a new con in a new area, there could be a sequel. But, as for whether there should be a sequel? No.
