The Idol: Season 1 – Video Review and Summary

While flawed in more ways than one, “The Idol” does have a few silver linings which allow you to get through it – despite one notable, divisive performance.

Who Is This For?

“The Idol” is geared toward fans of Sam Levinson’s brand of storytelling and sensationalism. If you are uncomfortable with sometimes excessive nudity, sexual situations, drug use, and certain actors being pushed beyond what might be your comfort zone, then “The Idol” may not be for you.

What I Hope To See

If “The Idol” gets a second season, it could be interesting to see what Jocelyn is like when she isn’t down, as we met her, but is on a high. Between three hit records and a major tour, we can see Jocelyn, a beloved superstar and the potential monster who loves and craves success and fame.

FAQs

Has “The Idol” Been Renewed For Another Season?

Currently (as of 7/10/2023), it hasn’t been renewed, but reports have noted that season 2 is possible.

Overall
“The Idol” contains a lot of missed opportunities due to not fully utilizing and developing its supporting cast. However, there is potential here. All that is needed is for Levinson to tap into characters like Nikki, Destiny, and others, while downgrading Tesfaye, for “The Idol” to potentially flourish.
