Episode 5 “Tommy’s Philly Block Party” Details

Network | OWN |
Recap
Things Are Going Well: Jay, Sahara, Fritz, Shanice, Angie, Husieen
Tommy has a block party, which allows everyone to check in with each other and maybe see about a missed connection, and there are some surprises there. For example, while it seemed Sahara only really had Cam, Jay connects with her in ways that make you realize they could go well together.
As that happens, Fritz reveals he and Shanice have been connecting spiritually, and Angie continues to be the hardestworking woman, perhaps in the entirety of “Ready To Love”, as she bonds with Husieen and makes him feel seen and liked. She even offers some support/ encouragement regarding not being in his son’s life through a key chain.
Too Much Or Too Little?: Rocky, Eddie, Coley, Sahara, Fritz, Cisco, Keira, Naaem

While Sahara keeps barking up Fritz’s tree, for reasons unknown, Coley decides to be very forward with Eddie, which makes it seem she can’t handle her liquor. But, in her defense, she isn’t the only one who may not be able to read the room. Rocky decides to do erotic poetry in front of Naaem, who isn’t into what she is putting out there, and then there is Cisco and Keira.
Cisco is having trouble financially. The divorce really affected him mentally and emotionally, and he opened up to Keira about not having a car and renting a room. You know, stability is a baseline requirement for nearly all women—whether on “Ready To Love” or not. So, her being taken aback by his situation causes some friction.
Thankfully, Naaem gives the kind of pep talk Cisco needed to address the issue with Keira, who sees Cisco as perfect, besides his financial, home, and car situation.
A Curveball and Cliffhanger: Rocky, Coley, and Sahara
With there being more men than women, it means a double elimination, and the bottom three end up being Rocky, Coley, and Sahara. You already know Sahara’s reason – homie vibes and Coley’s is the same as before, in terms of most of the men feeling like they can’t get beyond the surface. As for Rocky? Well, Cisco doesn’t find her attractive, and during the conversation when she is about to find out if she will be eliminated, it seems she too gives homie vibes, but more so in that she treats the guys like a homie than her being seen as one.
But who will be told they are not ready to love? That will come next week.
Predictions
- Next Eliminated (Men): I’m still stuck on Naaem at the bottom and think Fritz will join him. I don’t know how much was said by Tru when it comes to him not contacting her and their disagreement, and I feel like the five kids thing will be a death blow still. As for Fritz? I don’t feel like he is anyone’s first choice and between
- Next Eliminated (Women): With a double elimination, I feel the most likely to get kicked are Rocky and Sahara. Jay and Eddie have something going with Coley, but Rocky doesn’t really have much of a champion, and Cam? I feel like he is massively outnumbered when it comes to Sahara. But he did go hard for her, so there is a chance that with Coley coming on way too strong for Eddie and Jay having Keira, they could let her go. I don’t see it, but it could happen.
- Final Couples: I don’t feel like anyone is locked in the way I need them to be to say they are endgame. There are still many who I’d like to see make it to the end, but with whom, it is hard to say.
Review
Trajectory (81/100): Plateau
While the pettiness of Fritz isn’t appreciated, regarding Sahara, it does act as a reminder that, even with most in their 30s and beyond, there is still a sort of high school mentality there. Though, what perhaps was on display and worth highlighting the most is the vulnerability and accountability shown, whether it was Naeem and Cisco sharing a moment, Fritz being held accountable for his nonsense by multiple people, or even Coley, potentially drunk, getting loose with it, and Eddie not taking advantage.
It’s a mixed bag of highs and lows, but the entertainment isn’t the only part of episode 5 worth noting.
Highlights
Naeem and Cisco’s Conversation [86/100]

One of the things “Ready To Love” has allowed many of the cast to do is only show the parts of themselves they want to show. They don’t out them for not talking about kids, exes, or anything like that. So when it comes to Cisco talking about his financial situation, that felt notable.
After all, like Keira said, he seems like the perfect guy. He works out and may have done some women dirty in the past, but he seems more mature now, and he is well put together. Sweats like he is taking a lie detector test which will determine if he gets charged with murder, but otherwise, no notable issues. So, for him to say his divorce left him in a place where he doesn’t have a car, is renting a room, and saying that on national TV, never mind on a dating show? That feels notable.
I mean, look at it this way, a lot of the people who come onto “Ready To Love” are entrepreneurs, got steady jobs, and to come on here without that stability is something almost unfathomable. So when it comes to Cisco feeling down about it, passively rejected by Keira, and Naeem to talk him through those emotions and raise him up? Every now and then you hear on a non-OWN platform about scenes cut, like when the men opened up to each other about life, family, and other matters, and this feels like one of those scenes that get cut.
Now, will I pretend that the scene didn’t have a slight feel of producers setting it up? Nope. But, producers and coaches can only do but so much and it is up to cast members from there.
The “How Much You Really Know” Game [81/100]
One of the now staples of “Ready To Love” is in part of one of the group meet ups, playing a who knows who game. Now, generally speaking they are silly and don’t go that deep. I mean, questions for this round were who had sex in a funeral home and who had someone pray over their private parts. So, clearly, these questions shouldn’t be taken seriously.
However, I do think it does provide you a sense of who is taking the process seriously enough to make educated guesses. So as much as we may not see Sahara be seen as anyone’s top, she was second to only Angie in regards to getting three guesses right. Meanwhile, most of the others struggled to get one.
And again, the prompts were silly, but each one was revealing into what the person is into sexually, their love language, and though it can be considered early for sex to be a topic of conversation, considering how Coley was moving, and some are at the point of kissing? I’m just saying, if each episode is a week, and everyone is trying to be on the fast track for marriage, it isn’t the worst time to ask what someone is into.
On The Fence
Fritz [76/100]

Here is my thing, I get that maybe when the men are trying to protect the one they like, maybe they do get like Fritz and jockey for someone’s time on the show to end. However, the way Fritz was acting on camera, it felt unnecessary. What did Sahara do to him beyond holding him accountable and telling him she saw through his feign attempts to connect early on? Is he threatened by women who live life passionately and don’t fit into some kind of submissive mindset? Does he not know what area he is trying to date?
Like, as we’ve seen from Coley and the others, they can be very cute, very demure, but even Angie, when Eddie and Coley were canoodling, was starting to show she got that fight in her.
