Recap
Doesn’t A Man Have A Right To His Secrets?: Belinda, Gary, Rick, Chelsea
Rick finally comes out and says he thinks Sritala’s husband, Jim, killed his father, and he is there for revenge. This allows Chelsea insight into why they are in Thailand and what’s going on with Rick, who has been notably distant, but she disagrees with what she believes could be the inevitable. She thinks bad things happen in threes, and while she has borne the brunt of the first two bad things, it doesn’t mean she’ll suffer the third.

But, while Chelsea worries about what Rick may do, she continues to party on Gary’s boat, where many of the characters converge. However, as Gary watches people have fun, he takes note of seeing Belinda, and she too takes note of seeing him, which makes her Google Tanya and learn that she died and that Gary is wanted for questioning.
Just Looking For Some Fun: Valentin, Jaclyn
With Jaclyn unable to contact their partner, it seems the best response to her is to have some fun outside of the usual yoga and sitting by the pool. She hoped Valentin would offer her and her friends something, but the first place he sends her and her friends to ends up being another resort with older people. This is taken offense to, and the next thing they know, they are seeking a new place and are being hit with water guns left and right, making it seem as if Valentina is playing with them.
Soon, The Fun Might Be Over: Timothy, Victoria, Lochlan, Saxon, Chloe, Piper, Gaitok, Mook
While Saxon tries to make moves on Chloe on Gary’s boat and tries to get Lochlan laid, Piper is looking for support since she really wants to do that year-long internship at the Buddhist temple and wants Lochlan to back her. But, with Saxon getting his claws into his brother, he abandons her and leaves her with Tim and Victoria.
Now, how are they doing? Well, Victoria is Victoria, just along for the ride, but Tim is popping her pills like candy, freaking out about what is happening back home. This leads to him getting his phone and learning Kenny, his one-time partner, is working with the feds, and Tim’s life will likely be over once he returns to the United States. So, with this in mind, he sees a gun Gaitok was given to be a better security guard and takes it. As you can imagine, with Gaitok badly wanting to show Mook he is more than just some greeter, losing this gun diminishes his credibility, so he will be desperate to get it back.

As for how desperate? Future episodes will reveal that.

Highlights
Being Invested In Rick’s Revenge [82/100]
Right now, only Rick’s situation is pulling our attention. He is looking for revenge against the man who killed his dad, seemingly because Rick’s dad was helping locals build a defense against Sritala’s husband – this is an interesting storyline. Add in Chelsea being a quirky conscience in human form, and while certainly not the best storyline “The White Lotus” has ever had, it is the only one of this season that we’re vaguely curious about how it may end.
On The Fence
A Slight Struggle To Care About All Else Going On [72/100]

I’m struggling here. Jaclyn and her friends, once a highlight, aren’t that interesting when they aren’t talking behind each other’s backs and being shady. Even if they appear nice like Lochlan or Piper, Timothy and his family could end up dying, and I’d hunch. Belinda getting justice for Tanya seems almost disrespectful, considering what Tanya did to her in season one.
Which isn’t to say I want Gary to get away with murder, but also, like the police, I’m not invested in Gary’s life or what he is doing. I liked and loved Tanya, but she was also a character who ran her course and was killed off at just the point before the shtick could have gotten monstrously old.
Then with Gaitok and Mook, honestly, if “The White Lotus” focused more on staff than guests, I could get invested in them. But with Gaitok being such a subtle character and Mook not having much going on in her life, especially compared to the locals and staff of season 2, these two feel like afterthoughts, only brought up because Mook’s actress is internationally famous and Gaitok’s character can set up something to make Timothy more interesting.

As Timothy’s life slowly implodes, Jaclyn’s friend group is doing the same, Rick starts to make moves to get revenge, and Belinda recognizes an old face and has questions.

The White Lotus: Season 3 Episode 2 – Recap/ Review
While new characters bring new life to a familiar formula, others push the idea that if there is a season 4, their group/characters wouldn’t be a loss if removed.

The White Lotus: Season 3 Episode 1 – Recap/ Review
While there is clearly a formula for how “The White Lotus” operates, that doesn’t mean it lacks notable excitement.
