While the panty shots are unnecessary, “Gleipnir” does present itself as an intriguing action anime with eyebrow-raising characters.

Plot Overview
Shuuichi is your usual anime protagonist. There seems to be nothing special about him until he finds himself turning into this giant stuffed monster. Now, how did this happen? Well, seemingly due to burying a small furry animal. In doing so, he seemed to inherit better sight, smell, and maybe some instincts he didn’t have before.
However, while this newfound power has benefits, and makes it where Shuuichi could become a potential hero, it also forces him into a new world. One with other beings like himself, known as “Gatherers” fending for coins, so it seems. But perhaps the biggest change, and issue, is first-year student Clair Aoki who knows Shuuichi’s secret and plans to use it to control him. All the while making him very uncomfortable.
Highlights
If You Can Get Past The Ecchi, It’s Likable
Panty shots featuring underaged girls aren’t our thing, and we must admit it makes us uncomfortable. However, setting aside the ecchi, which may compensate for the run of the mill characters, the show is likable. Granted, a lot of what we see, from the basic protagonist to the tsundere female lead, you have likely seen before. But, I’d submit the whole monster element could shake things up.
Alongside that, considering Clair just tried to commit suicide, there could be an unexpected emotional element to this show. I can’t say it is guaranteed, but there is potential, and we appreciate potential.

First Impression: Divisive
Is “Gleipnir” worth a Funimation subscription if you don’t already have one? I wouldn’t say so. It doesn’t present itself as a show which, on its own, is worth paying $8 a month for. However, if you are already subscribing, this is a nice addition that is worth your time. I won’t say that it’ll become your favorite show, but it will help justify yet another bill on your budget.
