Recap

An Old Face Reappears – May

Remember way back in, let’s say, season 1? Specifically season 1, episode 3, we learned Laila and May’s former friend Georgina bullied her to the point of suicide. Well, now, more than three years later, Laila is trying to add May on Facebook, and she isn’t sure what to do about it.

The Dark Cloud – Karen, Hen, Albert, Chim, Maddie

With Nia’s birth mother ready to reunite with her, Hen is big mad. After all, it has been a year, and with struggling to have another kid, Nia just assumed the role and has become family. So losing Nia has her trying to negotiate despite having no leverage. Add in Karen accepting what’s going on and not matching Hen’s energy, and she is really pissed.

But, they aren’t alone in negotiating with fate. While Maddie goes into labor and things are fine, the same can’t be said for Albert. Thanks to a drunk driver, he is ran off the 710 and crashes, and with his car upside down and him bleeding, it looks like the birth of one Han will be met with the death of another.

The Silver Lining – Maddie, Albert, Bobby, Athena, Karen, Hen, Chim

However, that doesn’t happen. Being that Han men somehow survive no matter what life throws at them, Albert might be injured, but he is alive and conscious. Also, the whole situation makes Bobby glad for his sobriety and leads to him going to AA. For after an off-hand comment by Athena, he seems to realize he needs to check in, for it was one hell of a night.

As for Karen and Hen? Well, nothing seemingly will stop Nia from possibly ending up with her birth mother, but it does seem like Nia is adjusting to things shifting back to how they once were.

Oh, and it should be noted, after much deliberation, Maddie came up with a name for her and Chim’s baby! It’s Jee-Yun, which is the name of Chim’s mother.

I don’t know when that went from being a biological fact to an emotional reality.

Highlights

It’s Hard To Not End Up Teary-Eyed By The End

Between Hen struggling with Nia’s pending departure, Bobby dealing with his guilt, and Chim almost losing his brother, it was an emotional episode. But that’s the one good thing about these weird, extended breaks a lot of shows are doing this season. It’s easy to get jaded, especially 4 seasons in, especially since 9-1-1 rarely does sad endings. So these breaks help to suspend disbelief because you don’t feel caught up in a weekly routine of crazy 9-1-1 calls that rarely end up with people dying.

On The Fence

Is It Wrong I Wanted Albert To Die?

Case in point, Albert lived after a nasty accident and him hanging upside down, bleeding, for who knows how long. It’s moments like these that make it so 9-1-1 can be hard to take seriously and sometimes enjoy. For you already know the threat isn’t real, but add in how much we’ve seen Chim and Buck go through, yet they are still running around like they are? With none of the injuries we’ve seen them go through, be it a crushed leg or rebar through the skull, having any effect on their performance?

I mean, come on. Someone has to die eventually or be forced into retirement.

Summary

Is It Wrong I Wanted Albert To Die? - 74%
It's Hard To Not End Up Teary-Eyed By The End - 83%

79%

As usual, 9-1-1 dangles tragedy in front of viewers, only to pull back right before the grim reaper would need to be called. But, despite the fake-out, "Blindsided" still can play with your emotions and make you tear up.
