Tell Me Lies: Season 2 Episode 6 – Recap/ Review
It’s Thanksgiving and in Evan’s pursuit of maybe getting Bree back, everyone comes together, exes included, and the holiday becomes dramatic.
Storyline Recap
2015 – Bree, Stephen, Lucy, Max
It isn’t clear with who or why, but Bree is having the kind of conversation a woman likely shouldn’t the day before she gets married. As that happens, Lucy and Stephen decide to flare up their old feud, with Lucy decided to have sex with Max, outside, and makes sure Stephen sees it. She even allows him to watch.
The One That I Want – Evan, Bree, Oliver, Molly
Evan and Molly are having breakfast after spending the night on a regular basis and from the outside in, it looks like they are dating. However, Evan is quick to say they aren’t, to anyone but Molly, for he still has feelings for Bree. Sadly for him, they aren’t mutual at this time as she pines over Oliver, even as she knows she is the mistress.
All of this plays out at a Friendsgiving Party Evan is hosting, in which the original plan was for him to get back into Bree’s good graces. But, after all is said and done, Molly ends things with Evan and with Evan pushing the idea Oliver was using Bree’s potential daddy issues to exploit her, she decides to separate from Evan as well.
Sick & Tired Of War – Stephen, Diana, Pippa, Lucy, Leo
The drama doesn’t begin and end with Evan’s relationships, however. He has invited the whole friend group, or in the case of Stephen, they assumed it would be fine to show up when their previous plans got cancelled. You see, Diana not doing well on the LSAT has really shaken her family dynamics and now it appears she isn’t disowned, but isn’t welcomed at home.
Being that Stephen has been banking, heavily, on Diana’s father as a major part of his network, he is pissed and does make subtle but biting comments towards Diana, including in front of everyone. Pippa peeps this and does her best to get Diana away from Stephen or distract her. However, only so much can be done and with Stephen and Lucy watching them, it seems their secret friendship turned relationship began on Thanksgiving.
Speaking of Stephen and Lucy, their latest battle includes Leo and while Leo keeps from coming out of character and hitting Stephen, Stephen does all he can to provoke Leo. Prime example, we learn Leo’s ex, Becca, cheated on Leo with Stephen. There isn’t a single viable reason given, but it happened, and it pushes the idea Leo is dating Lucy as an act of revenge.
Lucy gets caught up in the idea and pesters Leo about it until he decides, or realizes, Stephen’s claws are too deep into Lucy for her to date, so he ends things. With that, Lucy just asks for whatever this war is to be over. She loved Stephen once, it went south and them saying and doing things to ruin each other’s lives is going too far. Stephen doesn’t respond, but it seems he could be willing to back off.

Highlights
How Leo Handled Everything
Considering Leo is the one with established anger issue, the fact that someone else brought up doing a slap drinking game and he avoided giving the hardest slap – even when Stephen was up? That was something. However, it is the conversations beyond that too which matter, especially as his connection to Stephen, through his ex, was brought up.
To me, that showed the difference between someone who genuinely has worked on himself to other people who enjoy swimming in a pool of toxicity. Lucy and Stephen get a rush from it, and as shown by Lucy slapping Diana when she jumped into their fight, I would say Lucy is adapting to it to the point she had to call a truce. She was about to lose herself to this fight in a whole new way.
Pippa Calling Out Stephen and Diana Asking To Be More Than People Who Worry About Each Other
With couples either dropping like flies or tarnishing their story with drama, it leaves us with only Pippa and Diana to look forward to, and for good reason. Lucy and Max having their moment in the pool, set up by Lucy so Stephen could see her, shows those two are lost. Throw in Evan and Bree not doing much better because Bree is holding secrets and Evan struggles with being single? I mean, who do we have left?
Wrigley? Who has such a need for intimacy, he sleeps around or, with Pippa, cuddles with her because he likely is scared to be alone? No. All we have really is Pippa and Diana and while Diana definitely has some negatives that deserve a side eye, you could easily assume if Lucy played the game as Stephen wanted, she would have evolved, or become, like Diana.
So, we can only hope what is blossoming between the two, even if it had to be a secret for a while, might become one of the few healthy relationships this show has to offer.
On The Fence
The Future Isn’t Enticing
The more we see of what becomes of the characters in the future, the less exciting it is to see. With knowing how Pippa and Diana started their friendship, soon to become relationship, what else is there now? Learning who Bree is speaking to over the phone that could threaten her marriage? Whether or not that is Oliver isn’t really of that much interest.
But, overall, what is there in the future to see? Wrigley still be alone and struggling, but now as a fully grown adult? How Stephen got with Lucy’s best friend? Heck, how Lucy stayed friends with Pippa and Bree maybe? There are things that could be linked but they certainly aren’t hooks to help the split narrative of “Tell Me Lies” benefit both sides of the story.
