Secrets Eat At You: Emmett, Kiesha, Darnell, Bakari, Detective Toussaint, Tiff
Emmett knowing the truth about Nuck, and Tiff too, you can foresee being a problem. Emmett is trying to be a better man, not lie, and Kiesha appreciates it. Darnell hired a sexy magician for Emmett’s bachelor party, and the IG Magician stole Emmett’s watch, and his honesty allowed Kiesha to move on quicker. She is still lowkey mad, but not making a big deal of it. Which pushes Emmett to say something, but he doesn’t.
As for Tiff? Her anger over Rob, jealousy over Kiesha getting a version of Emmett she didn’t get to have, all leads to mixed feelings. She loves Kiesha, is happy for her, but as shown, especially with her mother, Tiff has stuff to work out that no amount of money will make simple for her to handle.

But, to make matters worse, as Detective Toussaint starts her investigation, Bakari points a finger Tiff’s way, and as she did at Kiesha’s bachelorette party, Tiff says all the wrong things. Leading Detective Toussaint to smell blood in the water.
Girl Talk: Shawnita, Isis, Tiff, Kiesha, Angie, Amaya
While the boys’ bachelor party ends in thievery, the ladies? Well, what they mostly do is drink, chat, get massages, and talk about love and sex. For example, many talk about being, or possibly being with, a woman. Sometimes it is funny, like Riley revealing she has, but then there are moments when Shawnita and Isis seem like they could become something. Also, there is Amaya warning Angie about Smitty, who has raised red flags.
But then there is a moment in which Shawnita makes it clear that if Smitty does something, they’ll handle it. Tiff talking about taking a man out, considering Nuck is dead with there being no body, definitely makes everyone go quiet.
Yet, despite that odd moment, Tiff ends things on a high note with having a ceremony for Kiesha where the ladies give her flowers, noting all she is to them and the group.
Death and Jail Shifts Life & Perspectives: Bakari, Lynae, Britney, Reg, Jake, Victor, Darnell, Riley, Patience
Peaches, the mother of Jake, Victor, and Reg, dies from an overdose. It isn’t clear what happened or why, but her death leads to what Reg wished for. Victor is the first to find out, and he goes to Reg first. This leads to them needing to tell Jake, and Victor wants them to tell Jake together. Peaches’ death brings a different side of Reg out, which is vulnerable, not as tough or indifferent as he usually is, and it seems seeing Reg’s underbelly gives Victor enough to want to go easy on Reg, maybe even crack the door open to reconcile.
It isn’t clear if Jake may feel the same, as his focus is on his mom’s death. But considering how Reg releases Bakari from working with him, things may actually change. Not just for Reg and his brothers, but with Bakari and Britney being serious about a move to Atlanta, and Lynae, that might be a real move for them.
Not to be outdone, Darnell is thinking of giving his house to Shaad, and considering Riley offering Shaad a job as a counselor at the community center she works at, he will have a steady income. Add in him wanting to double down with Patience, and that house could become a home.
Review and Commentary
Highlights
Detective Toussaint v. Tiff [83/100]
Low-Key, Detective Toussaint is my favorite character because she is a threat to everyone. The gangsters have a reason to worry about her; those with legitimate businesses because they have association with the gangsters, and could be dragged into something, and she is the last remaining authority figure at this point. Everyone else is gone. Douda, Nuck, Q, they are dead. Victor lost his position, and now is a lackey; Tiff is barely anyone’s boss; Smitty’s storyline is more focused on his insecurities than running The Mob, and Reg? Jackie and ole boy may work for him, but what they respect is the money. Reg is just the middleman.
So with Detective Toussaint, her going after Tiff, even if she isn’t a big fish by any means, it feels like something noteworthy. If solely because it means the takedown of an OG character. Never mind, considering Detective Toussaint’s old grudge against Reg, and Tiff’s dealings with him, it could mean a big things, and heartbreaking ends.
Kiesha’s Reaction To The Truth [82/100]

I’m hoping Emmett breaks down and tells Kiesha the truth, and we see what that leads to. In my mind, Kiesha has often gotten to be poised, beautiful, calm, and understanding. Yes, she has gotten upset, angry, and expressed passionate emotions. The episodes with her mom, having real conversations, gave us that. However, I feel like she hasn’t really gotten to crash out, get into fights, and come out of character much.
So, learning Tiff killed the father of her son? A part of me wants to see her flip out and get violent. Not because I want that as one of the last major images of Kiesha in my mind. But I feel like there is a lot pent up there that needs to be released.
The Bachelorette Party Conversations [81/100]
While as individuals, it has been rare for any woman on this show to consistently have one good storyline after another. One thing, as a collective, they have long had is the women’s group conversations, which have always been a consistent highlight.
Yes, they do remind us more could and should be done with the women of The Chi. But, hearing them talk about interest in women, open marriages, gender, and more, reminds you that the show always had the ability to switch up. It didn’t as it should. But these conversations push the idea that these women have full lives.
It’s just, sadly, most of the time their lives focus/revolve around a man.
Peaches’ Death And Its Effect On Reg [84/100]
At this point, I think the person who might be the most memorable when the finale hits is going to be Reg. The wheels are in motion to give him an emotional finale featuring maybe winning his brothers back, turning his life around, in the only way he is capable of, and being lovable not because he is entertaining, but deserving of love. Then, with how Detective Toussaint is moving, him either getting arrested or killed.
It isn’t clear which one may happen, but I feel like tears will be shed, and what started in episode 6 with Reg longing for his brothers is going to pay off.
On The Fence
The Storylines Teased That Ain’t Gonna Happen Or Will Not Happen [74/100]
With all that said, I remain frustrated with this show. Do you remember Charles and Zuri? Their storyline of him becoming reformed, taking over the church, trying to pursue something real with Zuri and not being a hoe no more? Yeah, what happened to that? The same goes for Tiff’s issues with her mom, and her taking over raising her son, and all the issues that brought up between them – remember that?
How about Lynae and Bakari? How she go from lowkey disrespecting him to saying she loves him and will travel halfway across the country with him and his sister? With none of the three having any real kind of plan? While no time jumps have been mentioned, it feels like a lot has happened behind the scenes.

Then you got storylines that are quite interesting, like the possibility of Isis and Shawnita. Both of these characters are underused and undervalued, and a trans woman and a woman like Shawnita being together? I’m not going to say it has never been done, for that would be disrespectful to the indie productions out there that have likely done this storyline. However, has it been done on a platform with a budget and name recognition? I think not, and knowing this storyline won’t play out frustrates the heck out of me.
Overall
Our Overall Rating [80/100]
While optimism is pretty much dead when it comes to The Chi, there is a reason to maintain hope regarding what’s to come. Reg’s storyline has potential that could be realized, how Kiesha handles learning the truth about Nuck, and the house of cards Detective Toussaint may topple as she not only does her job but seeks vengeance.
