Brutal Love: Sofia, Louis, Lestat
Two years after forming his band, partly out of boredom and partly to rewrite his narrative, Lestat finds himself finally able to reconcile with Louis, laugh, talk about the book even, and introduce him to the Vampiress Sofia. The conversation between the two is cordial, but lacks comparing notes. After all, Sofia is Lestat’s mother and knows him differently than Louis, but presumably more.
However, what she doesn’t have the upper hand in is influence. Louis is against Lestat bringing an estimated 50,000 vampires together for a memorial concert, which could lead to “The Great Conversion.” Sofia? She is orchestrating it all and thinks maybe Louis should just stay away – he could get hurt.
But whether Louis goes or not, or Lestat cancels, it gets put on the back burner when Louis discovers Sofia’s real identity and that she and Lestat have been having sex. The incest is a lot to process, and Lestat struggles to explain in any way that makes logical sense and uses them being vampires to prove there can’t be mortal logic applied.
Ultimately though, with seeing a vulnerable Lestat, and knowing what else is to come in the night, Louis tries to work his way towards understanding, but it is a difficult task.
Radical Honesty: Claudia, Louis, Lestat, Merrick

Rather than continuing to see Regina, pay her tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, Lestat arranged for Merrick to visit and hold a séance. One which will conjure up Claudia, and it leads to unexpected results.
Mainly, it shows Claudia, even in death, still suffering, still very capable and willing to hurt Louis, and as alone as ever. It’s an eye-opening experience which gives the type of closure that Louis didn’t expect. Mainly due to Claudia telling him to move on in the most visceral way imaginable.
You Know This Is a Tragedy, Right?: Louis, Lestat, Daniel, Armand, Alex
The night as a whole brings Louis and Lestat closer than ever, and add in messing with Daniel earlier in the night, as he seeks to finish his documentary, and they couldn’t be better. Which perhaps makes it both fitting and sad that Armand and Daniel cut off their heads, while Alex watches.
The two find their lives, assumingly over, when in a good place, and for those who believe in sustaining the Five Laws, they have rid themselves of the two who put them in jeopardy.

Review and Commentary
Highlights
Delainey Hayles [88/100]
I feel like, between her performance as Regina, paired with what she delivers in this episode as Claudia, someone needs to start the FYC campaign for Hayles. Heartbreaking, a touch shocking, and an understandable rage, with complicated feelings of love. It is all delivered in that séance scene and truly makes it feel like Claudia still had something to say and Hayles wasn’t kept strictly due to being a familiar face to the audience, but because she delivers.
The Reconciliation of Louis and Lestat [84/100]
Louis and Lestat’s history is immensely complicated. There is stalking, domestic violence, murder, pettiness, and one could say the lows easily outnumber the highs. But with living hundreds of years as a guarantee, assuming your head doesn’t get cut off, comes room for reflection and reconciliation.
Now, between their past and the book, you would be right to think it can’t just be time which heals old wounds. Lestat did drop Louis from miles up in the air, and tore up a house, beating his ass. Yet, there is something strange enough about these two that, when they have a civil, even vulnerable conversation, you are reminded of the unique position they exist in.
More than his maker, Lestat is Louis’ father, the only family he really has, after being disowned, and then there is their complicated connection via Claudia. And in the same vein (no pun intended), Lestat doesn’t really have anyone either. His relationship with his mother doesn’t allow for softness, even in sex. Yes, he has mortal relatives, but he didn’t take much note of drinking from that young woman’s blood with Louis and Daniel.

So when it comes to Louis, as much as you can consider this yet another twisted relationship for Lestat, take note of how he nearly broke down from Louis’ judgement and how healing it was when he sought to understand him over judge him? When people said, “They were made for each other,” it can have varying connotations, but I would submit this may lean towards something positive.
On The Fence
How Things Will Play Out In The Season Finale [77/100]
Ending the episode with Daniel and Armand cutting off Louis and Lestat’s heads was dramatic. But it is also the penultimate episode, so it leaves the question: what comes next? Louis keeps mentioning having the blood of Akasha, so will we see some miraculous recovery? One that Louis experiences since, unlike Sofia, he has Akasha’s blood since he was made after Lestat was her keeper?
On top of that, were they conscious long enough to know or remember who killed them, if they can regenerate? Never mind, would they get revenge, or would this be one of those weird things where they don’t talk for almost a century but eventually laugh about it?
Heck, considering Akasha is bound to show up at Lestat’s concert- never mind that she could be on her way- what will she do? The Queen of the Damned is the next book, and from my vague memories of The Vampire Lestat, as a book, there isn’t enough left to extend this like they did Interview With The Vampire.
So, are they clearing the way for Akasha to be the star or making things complicated because Lestat takes the reins back later in the Vampire Chronicles?
Overall
Our Overall Rating [83/100]
The latest episode of The Vampire Lestat ends in an odd place. In some ways, we got a lot of closure for the leading three characters, only for two of the supporting characters to cut their heads off. Which, if this was the finale, would be a shocking and frustrating end, but with one episode left, we’re left with a lot of questions. The kinds that the books provide guidance on, but while a faithful adaptation, to a point, creative license has been used and likely will be used far beyond race swapping and dialogue choices.
