Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation: Season 3 Episode 3 – Recap and Review

We catch up with Rudy this episode to see how everyone is settling in after the events that happened in the season 2 finale – especially after the Hydra fight and Rudy’s second marriage.

Episode 3 “Life Back at Home” Recap and Details

Home Life: Rudy, Roxy, Sylphie, Norn, Aisha, Zenith, Lilia

Lucie in Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation Season 3 Episode 3

Weeks, if not up to six months, have passed since the end of season 2 for Rudy, and he is now a father (to Lucie); things have settled regarding him having two wives, and he has gotten used to missing a hand. As for everyone else? Roxy is prepping to work at Ranoa University, and Sylphie returns as a student. Norn and Rudy get along, and she spends her time helping to take care of Zenith, going to school, or writing the Superd book Rudy has spoken about, but hasn’t made time for.

As for Aisha and Lilia? Things are the same. They pretty much manage the house, and between Aisha’s high energy and Lilia’s calm energy, they balance each other out.

School Life: Roxy, Sylphie, Rudy, Cliff, Zanoba, Linia, Pursena, Jenius, Nanahoshi, Norn

Like at home, things haven’t notable changed at school. Yes, time has gone forward, and now Linia and Pursena are in their final year, and take note Rudy has taken another wife which isn’t them, so they are moving on. Nanahoshi is still around, and with Rudy back, she hopes to continue their experiments.

Cliff? With being a follower of Millis, he doesn’t necessarily approve of Rudy being a polygamist, but he seems to value Rudy’s friendship more than his faith. Though, with Norn being a follower of Millis too, he does chastise Rudy for not thinking of her, which brings some embarrassment to Rudy, but luckily they’re in a good place, so negative emotions don’t last too long.

Which is a good thing because, between Cliff and Zanoba, they have created this magical glove that, with the use of mana, allows Rudy to appear to have a hand again. On top of that, he can conjure magic, adjust the strength of the grip, and you know that means all kinds of ideas flowing through his head.

This could make Roxy being introduced as the new teacher, by Jenius, for Rudy’s special class complicated. Especially since she has taken on Rudy’s last name and part of her introduction is as Rudy’s wife, since she grows tired of just being presented as his master. Which isn’t to say Rudy has been perfect regarding Sylphie either, but he’s adjusting.

A Return To Normalcy: Rudy, Roxy, Sylphie, Aisha

Back at home, now with this glove, people are a little shocked, potentially weirded out, but Rudy is excited. Is the sexual aspect a big part of it? Yes. But it also means tickling Aisha – so it isn’t all dirty. But in the end, this glove means further returning to some kind of normalcy, and while having nearly every member of your family in the same house may not be common, compared to Rudy’s past life, this is perfect.

Review and Commentary

Highlights

A Tame, Reintroduction Episode [81/100]

I’m going to respect the fact that the show reintroduced the main players, made sure to say most of their names, and gave us a sense of where we left off with them. Again, considering how long it has been since the last time we saw everyone, this feels necessary.

Now, could some submit that we should have gotten some hint of what comes next? Yes. Because all Rudy getting that glove does is remove an inconvenience, something which could make things difficult in the future. It doesn’t present what’s next for anyone we’ve met.

So here is hoping, with using an episode to reintroduce nearly everyone, the following episode moves things forward.

It’s reasonable, especially considering how many characters are part of Rudy’s central storyline, to spend an episode reintroducing most of them. However, even with this season likely having 20+ episodes, because there is usually a 7-month gap between cour 1 and cour 2, and 2 years between seasons, I think it is fair to say we need them to hit the ground running from this point on.
