Reconciliation Possibilities
Though a lot of dark and terrible things have happened on Star, I have never thought of the show as something which would inspire tears. Not to say I never cried when watching this, but I didn’t think Star would inspire tears from me. After all, she brings a roller coaster of admiration, disdain, and very few loops to bring you back to admiring her again.
Yet, with this Brody situation, I feel like we may get that missing factor. That is, getting that soft side of Star on a consistent basis. One which isn’t dependent on what she can get out of the man and it seeming like that will affect how nice or mean she is. For this man, her daddy, ain’t got nothing but his name. So it should be interesting to see, as he brings up old issues and perhaps tries to show he legit wants to be part of his daughter’s life, how that relationship helps to develop the character. For, like Rachel, sometimes I get tired of Star seeming one note.
But, we also have to mention Jahil and Cotton reconciling too. If only because of the complications dealing with their past, which includes drug use, and them being able to be each other’s crutch. Much less, Jahil really playing the daddy role and introducing Cotton to his family.
Alex Shining Brighter Than Ever
I cannot wait to see what comes of Alex working with other artists. Especially Noah and Gigi. Noah because I can foresee drama between Star and him over Alex, be it her jealous of their closeness or him using her producer/ writer. Then, of course, there is the idea of Derek getting jealous since, you already know, Noah will probably have Alex working through the night and this is going to bring about insecurities.
Grandma Ruby
Speaking of Derek, can someone find a way to get Jenifer Lewis and Juanita Jennings (Ruby) together for something? Sisters, rivals, what have you? For there is just something about her sharp tongue that is just underutilized. I mean, you can’t have too many comic relief characters but I’d love for her to be featured outside of Derek’s life and get some Miss Bruce kind of screen time.
Cotton’s Love Triangle
Again, I don’t want to make any and all praise about Cotton be about her being trans. However, once again I find myself questioning, is this one of the first times we have seen this? I mean, Cotton is the focus of a love triangle right now. We got Elliot on one side, Omari on the other, and a lady unsure which one to have.
Simone & Karen
I am so here for Simone being in a relationship. Granted, Karen is a bit rough around the edges, but let’s not forget that Simone, no matter how pretty, dressed up or not, is a bit of a hood booger. She can be uncouth, vulgar, and someone like Karen probably is the best match for her. For even though there are many things not the same with their background, she can be an outlet for Simone. One which, as noted in the recap, is completely hers. Not one of Star’s friends, or even Carlotta’s. She is someone she connected with through a first-person connection.
Carlotta Back in Church
Between a Black female pastor (Shayla Love), what may or may not happen with Maurice, and Carlotta back on stage? Ain’t it good to see her back in church? Heck, props to Maurice for that is probably what Carlotta needed. Though Jahil gave her a boost in confidence, I foresee that pastor being of more use to her.
Now, if only she could get Simone back in church.
A Muslim Character
Though likely Soraya was a one-time appearance, I kind of hope not. If only because Derek does need a life outside of Alex and I would love to see him maybe look into the Muslim faith. Especially in terms of him finding himself again after his accident.
On The Fence
Gigi & Rachel
I don’t know about you, but even with Star whooping Rachel’s behind, that isn’t enough for me. I enjoy Paris Jackson showing up to a point, but I think she is really overstaying her welcome right now. Something I foresee happening with Gigi real quick. For she is that type of flamboyantly ghetto type that needs to be given some depth really quick. Because, otherwise, on top of being some kind of comic relief, she is just some sad stereotype. Of which, granted, like Cookie on Empire, I’m sure people can identify with. So maybe it is just me being bougie. However, a hood girl without some depth and background does nobody any good.
Just a question: is Brody Simone’s father also? I know its likely he is only Star’s but she said he was around with Simone also. So were him and Mary on and off and Simone was the result of a fling or is he both girl’s fathers?
Simone notes when talking to Karen he is her step father. Simone’s dad, I struggle to remember who or what he is. What in terms of whether he was a fling or not.
