It’s Lani’s special day, and Shanthi wants to be there for her, but she is bleeding. By many, from Ranji and Mariai, she is considered unclean to participate in the ceremony for Lani until tradition gives way to understanding.

Highlights
Honoring Tradition, Yet Recognizing As Much As It Brings People Together, It Can Get In The Way
For nearly all cultures, traditions and events bond their people but also allow for some form of ostracization. It can be something as simple as not dressing nice enough to who your partner is and how you live your life. In the case of “Blood,” it is the assumption that Shanthi is having her period, which is treated as something dirty, despite all the women there, likely, having their period at least once.
Yet, despite that, you can see a growing belief that Shanthi should go home until the truth comes out.
