Higan, aka Joe Logan (Kenjiro Tsuda and Jeremy Gee)

An exiled ninja, Higan broke the code of the Ninja Clan and has since been on the run, trying to raise a family. However, years later, in an attempt to keep the Ninja Clan’s secrets, he and his family are murdered, but Higan rises from the dead and vows revenge.

Mike is an FBI agent heading toward the end of his career, and despite the trouble working with Higan can bring, he decides to see Higan’s goals through and hopes to eventually arrest him.

Emma is Mike’s partner, who is relatively new to the FBI and has massive tech knowledge, to the point of modifying her vehicle into a mobile computer.

  • Background (S01E07): Emma’s backstory is given, which includes her parents abandoning her after an accident and being adopted by the Ninja Clan. Also, it is noted her role in choosing the next chieftain.

Like much of Higan’s past life, not much is known about The Old Man. It is clear that he is a doctor, seemingly constantly surrounded by cats. But, most importantly, he is someone Higan can trust.

Season 1 Episode 12 Update

We learn The Old Man is actually the former Chieftain who, due to clashing in beliefs with Yamaji, was killed.

  • Special Technique (S01E07): She can freeze a person’s cells, causing them to be in suspended animation. She taught Emma this skill, and she used it to save Higan.
  • Face Morph (S01E07): Mari is the inventor of the face morph we saw in episode 1.

Lil is a ninja with weird proclivities that lead to him making most things sexual.

Zai, also known as “The Reaper,” is a ninja who focuses on taking out exiles and those who have left the ninja order.

Plot

Higan and his wife Mari were once part of a Ninja Clan, and when they decided to reciprocate each other’s feelings, they broke the code. After becoming exiles, they were on the run for years, and when they thought they could have peace, they started a family.

Unfortunately for both, they were soon discovered and murdered. But Higan, through will or a special ninja skill, came back to life. Between a drive for vengeance and the help of the FBI, he plans to execute the new head of the Ninja Clan, who didn’t let his family be.

  • Ninja Clan (S01E02): Created in Japan, the Ninja Clan’s goal was also to maintain peace. However, at one point, it decided to leave Japan and be under a greater power, leading to a pseudo-merger with Auza.
    • Organization (S01E06): The chieftain is the head of the clan, and then there are the lieutenants and the general ninjas. 
  • Auza (S01E03): A multinational enterprise specializing in developing military weapons, telecommunications, entertainment, and pretty much all things tech. Whatever industry it is in, it has a high market share. Also, they eliminate critics and opposition by utilizing the Ninja Clan.

  • Gusoku Gear (S01E06): The high-grade combat suit that lieutenants of the Ninja Clan use
    • Kamui (S01E06): The name of the specific suit that Emma gives/ stole for Higan
  • Cuborium (S01E08): An element the Auza corporation found that they use to power their own reactors.

Terminology

  • Ninja Code (S01E04): The secrets of the ninja must never be divulged, and they must be emotionally detached, even from their allies, and it is the mission over their life.

  • Secret Art (S01E04): When promoted in the Ninja Clan, each person gets a specific secret art that only they and the person who teaches or gives the art to them knows.
