How I Developed My Drinking Problem: Tora

Juni Taisen (Zodiac War) Season 1 Episode 9 “The Man Who Chases Two Rabbits Catches Neither” – Tora

Before Tora was an alcoholic in a skimpy Halloween costume, she was but a girl. One basically raised in a dojo and capable of sparring with 100 people in a row. She was truly talented and her master knew of this. Hence why she was made into a warrior.

However, being such a young age and not properly prepped for the horrors of war, alcohol became a means of dealing with her pain. Then, her tiger style? Well, that came from being too drunk to stand. And after a while, between the alcohol and blood she caused, her humanity slipped away. Yet, in her semi-sober thoughts, she’d wonder if it ever really existed? Is anyone really human the way we often describe or are some beasts just more comfortable standing upright and clothed?

Either way, after a certain point Tora’s memories faded to the point she ended up living off of combat and her master no longer recognized her. Thus leading to him disowning her and leaving you to question if her sponsor disowned her, how she ended up In the Juni Taisen?

The End of the Twins: Tora, Ushii, Usagi, Nagayuki, Takeyasu

Juni Taisen (Zodiac War) Season 1 Episode 9 “The Man Who Chases Two Rabbits Catches Neither” – Usagi

As Nagayuki watches his brother fight, even preps to join him one last time, Usagi, thanks to Sharyu, flies into the air and cuts him in half. Thus creating a new zombie friend. Also, it creates another headache for Tora and Ushii. However, no sooner than this new battle begins than Ushii pushes Tora to use Nagayuki’s tank of liquid hydrogen against the brothers, barely missing him, and they turn to ice. Thus ending that battle.

The End of Usagi and Start of The Final Rounds: Usagi, Tora, Ushii

Juni Taisen (Zodiac War) Season 1 Episode 9 “The Man Who Chases Two Rabbits Catches Neither” – Usagi - Tora - Ushii

After the twins are iced and broken, Usagi comes from the shadows. Seemingly, he was waiting for Tora and Ushii to be defeated so he could add them to his collection. Yet, with that not happening, and him being discovered, he doesn’t even try to run away. He goes for one of those we’re going to straight on clash and only one person is going to be left standing kind of moments. Of which, between Tora and Ushii? Oh, he gets DECIMATED!

Leaving only Ushii, Tora, and Nezumi left.

Question(s) Left Unanswered

  1. So if Tora got disowned, how did she end up one of the warriors?

On The Fence

Tora’s Background

I’m not going to lie, I kind of got into Tora’s backstory. Especially in terms of what caused her to be an alcoholic. For with everyone else, outside of Sharyu, they seemingly just accepted this role as a soldier and excelled in it. For Tora, it was nice to see a character who still may have lost her mind, but it was more so through the way she was coping than the acts itself.

But what confused me is why would you train someone in martial arts and then send them out into a war zone where people are using machine guns? Was she supposed to kick bullets and missiles and redirect them? Also, her drunken style, considering that was completely different from what she was taught, how was she so proficient in it?

And Then There Were Three

Juni Taisen (Zodiac War) Season 1 Episode 9 “The Man Who Chases Two Rabbits Catches Neither” – Tora

Tora, whose backstory was meh, Nezumi, who is almost as stoic as Ushii, and I assume Usagi’s backstory will be featured as well. That is what we have to look forward to in the three episodes remaining. That and learning what is Nezumi’s special attack or power.

I don’t know about you, but there isn’t this vibe that they saved the best for last at all. Maybe it is because by the time people are finished being introduced they are dead or just that no one gets made out to be that cool anymore. Either way, to call this show a disappointment would be a huge understatement and I really can’t fathom a way it could bounce back.
