Recap
The Reason I Do This – May, Athena, Maddie, Bobby
When it comes to Athena and May, understanding why Athena remains a cop and why May has seemingly abandoned USC to be a dispatcher is beyond both sides. However, all is explained through the rescue Athena does with a woman ready to give up on life, and May, with coaching from Maddie, being able to be there by her side. For while Bobby is always looking out for his wife, even the reason she gets rescued, May is tired of feeling helpless and waiting at home. She wants to help, and this is the best way she can help without adding to everyone’s worry.
Well, as long as another hostage situation doesn’t happen.
Being Fearful Will Make You Miss Out On The Best Things In Life – Chim, Maddie, Albert, Buck
With constant exposure to people in varying states, Chim has separated himself from Maddie in hopes of her not getting infected. Yet, with meeting a young pregnant woman kidnapped by a crazy person and hearing how scary isolation was for her, it snaps something into place for Chim. Despite his fear of how he will be as a dad, since his father was trash, he isn’t showing or trying to be better by not being there for Maddie.
So, it is decided Albert will go live with Buck, and Chim move back in with Maddie.

- Buck is apparently in therapy.
- Michael and David are still going strong, and they even live together now.
- Wasn’t Hen’s little kid cute? With that said, am I the only one who feels like they forgot where that kid came from? Is this the kid she adopted with her wife?

Review
Highlights
May and Athena’s Relationship
May and Athena’s relationship is perhaps one of the longest on 9-1-1. We’ve seen these two together since May was in high school being bullied, and Athena abused her power to deal with a bully. Add in boyfriends, Michael coming out, Bobby moving in, these two have been through a lot together. So May trying to give back to Athena, make her feel less alone out there on patrol, it perhaps was one of the sweetest gestures the show has had in a long time.
Mind you, Eddie and Christopher are cute, as are Maddie and Chim. However, May decided to disregard USC to be a dispatcher so that she can be by her mom’s side? That can’t be topped. And while we know Athena always has Bobby, as this episode shows, it’s hard to not get choked up in seeing a mother and daughter, especially a Black mother and daughter, have such a good relationship and look out for each other like this.
