We Meet Again – Akira, Kencho, Shizuka

With a strong desire to be a hero, Akira, and Kencho head to the local aquarium, where there is a superhero suit that can withstand a shark’s bite. In Akira’s mind, a suit like that would allow him to handle zombies with ease, but what he wasn’t expecting was his first opportunity to show off the suit would be in front of Shizuka.

Despite her risk assessments, she was with a group of people who seemingly didn’t have any notable survivor skills, and in the process of being rescued by Akira and Kencho, one of the girls in the group betrayed her. The shock and dismay turns her off from joining a group ever again, but Akira rescuing her does allow her to ease up on him a bit.

Note: She still doesn’t trust him enough to partner up with, since he is far too reckless. However, him saving her and his kind words does lead to her giving her information. Granted, under the assumption he’ll be dead, and they won’t run into each other a third time, thus making this a low risk.

Shizuka and Akira’s Methods Clash, Yet They Compliment One Another Just The Same

Shizuka (Tomori Kusunoki) feeling a bit taken by Akira saying he cares about her
“Shizuka (Tomori Kusunoki) feeling a bit taken by Akira saying he cares about her,” Zom 100: Bucket List Of The Dead, “Hero Of The Dead,” directed by Shōtarō Tamemizu, 2023, (Netflix)

What can be said beyond opposites attract? Akira has a lust for life and sees becoming a zombie as inevitable, so he wants to make the best of the time he has left. Shizuka sees becoming a zombie as avoidable, so she wants to do what it takes to extend the time she has left. The balance of the two was shown in Shizuka’s rescue, and I think, while there are no guarantees that she’ll become Akira’s girlfriend, I do think they have the capability to become close enough for Kencho to tease them and lead us to question will they or won’t they.

With Shizuka warming up to Akira and him putting aside a childhood fantasy to return to reality, which includes checking on his parents, it should be interesting to see whether he gets to have a grand return or some form of heartache.
