Movie Summary
Alma is the eldest child and daughter of an influential lawyer with a firm in Paris. With her intelligence, he expects her to join him one day and take over, but she wants to be an artist, specifically a filmmaker. She even, secretly, declares herself a film major and signs up for classes on that degree track. Enter Vadim, a kid with a troubled past, whom she gets paired up with since their Film Studies professor thought they could bring the best out of each other.
What that professor may have never guessed was that combining the trust fund kid with one of the handful on scholarship would cause an immense amount of drama that would alter both forever.

Alma (Vittoria di Savoia)
- Character Summary: Alma is the eldest of three children, and treated as the heir to the family business. However, while it would be easy to just join her father’s law firm, work her way up, and take over, she would rather be a filmmaker. But with everyone having long decided what is best for her, she’ll have to secretly take the reins of her life and prove she deserves autonomy.
Vadim (Lucas Barski)
- Character Summary: Vadim is an orphan who bounced around to many foster homes and got into a bit of trouble as a teen. But he got his act together, got a scholarship for university, and is trying to keep his life on track. Unfortunately, however, people from his past didn’t let him freely pursue a new life, but rather gave him a long leash.

It Largely Follows The Usual Beats Of A Forbidden Romance [72/100]
You+Me – Against The World doesn’t rip up the playbook and seek to do something unique or different. Alma is a privileged girl who finds herself interested in a bad boy, with this one coming in Russian form. But the film doesn’t pursue anything to really make these two stand out.
Alma is frankly bland. She comes from a wealthy family, a two-parent household with three kids, and while filmmaking is her dream, her dad has a thick safety net for her. The type where a job, career, and eventually owning his law firm are all lined up for her. On the other end is Vadim, who is almost as generic.
Take note: he was raised without his parents, fell into a situation with the wrong people, got a reputation, a record, and we’re told he is trying to pursue his dream of film, but it isn’t clear how. I say that because, while paired with Alma, it seems she is coming up with most of the ideas, based on her interactions with Vadim, and writing everything on her laptop. At most, Vadim throws in a note here or there, plays one of the actors in their short film, but that’s it.
But you know what really is unfortunate here? The supporting characters don’t compensate. Alma’s friends and family might be messy at times, but with all of it serving the plot, they don’t really stand out. The same goes for Vadim’s friends. They, like our leads, are all simplified in such a way that for those who are fans of the forbidden romance sub-genre, this movie may barely register as something to hold you over until a better film comes along.

The main issue with You+Me – Against The World is that it lacks a hook. The leads are generically attractive and follow the good girl/bad boy formula. Their supporting characters don’t have the usual standout personalities, humor, or commentary, which could have been the sole formulaic thing the movie could have benefited from. Instead, what we get is a film which isn’t bad, but so middle of the road it registers as a white noise movie. Something you have on in the background while you clean, cook, have dinner, or split your attention with this being secondary.
