Plot Summary
In a very distant future, in which some of the things we saw in Mass Effect look real, Thom and his crew just finished an assignment in record time. Leading to hopes that they’ll even get a bonus. However, after going to sleep, before a light year jump, it is discovered they are nearly on the other side of the galaxy. Leading to a familiar face for Thom, a woman named Greta, being a welcomed but questionable sight.
Highlights
The Animation Is On The Level of E3 Presentations
After taking a break from the anthology, I feel reminded why the binge watch sell of Netflix doesn’t work for everything. For Love, Death & Robots, it makes one of its biggest selling points, the animation, lose the wow factor after you see several with AAA video game level graphics. Yet, one of the things I found interesting, and excuse me if this sounds pervy, was that Greta wasn’t made to be perfect at all angles. What I mean by this is, there are sex scenes, and when laying on her side, gravity does its thing. Which pushes the idea Greta isn’t half-nude just for the sake of being so, to tantalize, but thought was put in to show she was supposed to be a real woman. Not just someone Thom was messing around with.

It Leaves You With Far Too Many Questions
Shorts sometimes are like extended trailers. Hence why many end up becoming full-length films, once they get investments. However, the problem with that is those full-length films don’t come for years. So being left with all the questions we are about Greta and where Thom’s crew ended up, that was frustrating.
Overall: Positive (Worth Seeing) | Available on Netflix
Like a handful of others in the anthology, you are left a bit upset by not getting to learn more. Which, for Beyond the Aquila Rift is a good thing since it drives your curiosity and pushes you to want to have Netflix finance follow-ups, expansions, or more within the short’s universe. Leading to the positive label which is given for creating said interest.
