Love Kills (2024) Movie Review

Brianna (Lucy Diamanta) and Lia (Gaia Brooks), Love Kills, directed by Duke, 2024, (Artofduke)

“Love Kills” loses its luster as you figure out it is using sex and violence to compensate for a lackluster story.

Plot Summary

For Lia and Milo, originally, Brianna was just their roommate, someone to help pay the rent. However, as Milo has to go off to watch his younger sister, Lia gets to spend time with Brianna and learn parts of her story, which includes a thuggish man named Cashmeer, and before she knows it, she is sucked into Brianna’s charm and world.

Highlights

Lia and Brianna’s Relationship

“Love Kills” is a sex sells type of film, and the chemistry between Lia and Brianna is the selling point. For even beyond the sex scenes, there is something cute and playful about them.

Add in the complications of their relationship due to both having close relationships with potentially jealous men and while I wouldn’t say the chemistry compensates for a rather dry story, it gives you something to hold onto.

On The Fence

Getting Invested Into The Story

The main issue with “Love Kills” is that it lacks a notable hook. Lia is a submissive character who doesn’t bring anything to the film to maintain your attention and while Brianna has a story to tell and a past that makes her sound interesting, she isn’t.

After a certain point, “Love Kills” becomes the type of film that leans on sex and violence in an attempt to keep you engaged, but as that loses its luster, the film loses you.

Summary

While opening up with a sex scene and ending with violence bookends “Love Kills,” unfortunately, most of what we see in the middle relies on you never getting over sex and violence to get you through the film.
