Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka)

Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1: October Country”

Who Is Sabrina?

A half-witch/ half-mortal, devout feminist, and social justice advocate, Sabrina encompasses a lot of adjectives. However, when it comes to the core two, being both witch and mortal, that might be the only ones which trouble her. For while she loves having powers, the patriarchal structure and sacrifices which are required to be a full witch are daunting. Yet, with it being her connection to her father, to give that up for her friends, and boyfriend Harvey, makes for a difficult decision. One which, if she can, she may try to haggle her way out of making.

How Does Season 1 End For Sabrina

In the end, Ms. Wardwell and the Dark Lord win. To stop the Greendale Thirteen and the Red Angel, Sabrina signs the book of the beast and learns she is perhaps one of the four most powerful witches ever by summoning hellfire. In doing so, she seems to realize her powers, alongside signing the book, won’t allow her to maintain her duality of being mortal during the day and a witch during the afternoon and evenings. So, she says her goodbye to Harvey, with one last kiss, and fully immerses herself within the world of witches. Specifically, Prudence’s group of which she becomes the fourth member. Ending things with winking at Nick which may imply, out with the Harvey and in with the Nick.

How Does Season 2 End For Sabrina

After attempting to end the apocalypse by ridding herself of her powers, it almost happening anyway. But Lilith restores them when she becomes queen of hell. But, with Nick having become the vessel of Lucifer and put under a sleeping spell, Sabrina decides she is going to get Nick from hell and figure a way to save him.

Also, she is still dealing with Lucifer being her biological father.

Ross Lynch Plays Harvey Kinkle

Harvey (Ross Lynch) looking at Sabrina, around the time he says he loves her.

Harvey (Ross Lynch)

First Noted In:

Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1: October Country”

Who Is Harvey

As of the series premiere, Harvey is just the mortal boyfriend of Sabrina who knows nothing about her other life. Something she wants to reveal to him, especially since they’ve exchanged “I Love You” to one another. However, revealing she is a witch was too much for him, so his memory was wiped of that moment. Making him, for now, just the dutiful boyfriend who knows only but so much about his beloved. Though we do learn, in episode 2, the young man is quite the artist and comes from a coal mining family. One which got the mine by ill means.

Additional Information
  • His family comes from witch hunters. In fact, a lot of what his family has comes from killing and stealing from witches.

How Does Season 1 End For Harvey

After what Sabrina did to Tommy, Harvey was having a hard time dealing with that and knowing she is a witch. However, with her sending Nick to protect him, and Nick noting she loves him, it seemed he wanted to give them another chance. But, it seems everything Sabrina was told finally got to her and so she decided to forsake her mortal bonds. Not just because of the whole aging thing but taking note of what Ms. Wardwell said, it seems she may want to follow her father’s path and reform the church. Which, with mortal loved ones, vulnerable in a multitude of ways, she can’t maintain the attachment she currently has for it may lead to them violently dying. As Tommy did – the first time.

How Does Season 2 End For Harvey

He is alive, well, dating Roz but still down for Sabrina’s crazy adventures.

Miranda Otto Plays Zelda Spellman

Zelda (Miranda Otto) smiling

Zelda (Miranda Otto)

First Noted In:

Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1: October Country”

Who Is Zelda

Of the Spellman siblings, Zelda has the airs and graces of the oldest and is definitely, by far, the most conservative, when it comes to the ways of witches. Making it where she and Sabrina will clearly be at odds for Zelda seems much more for tradition than the challenges to the status quo Sabrina has.

Additional Information About Zelda
  • While very much a traditionalist, often at ends with Sabrina about her radical feminism, she is a feminist in her own way. She wants power, to be seen as an equal, but she rather obtain her power in more subtle ways rather than have the ship be topside.

How Does Season 1 End For Zelda

After delivering Constance’s babies, we learn Zelda stole the oldest, a girl, for she doesn’t trust what Father Blackwood would do. So now she plans to raise the child, hopefully with Hilda’s support.

How Does Season 2 End For Zelda

With Father Blackwood abandoning the Academy of the Unseen Arts and the truth of about Lucifer coming out, Zelda takes it upon herself to start the Church of Lilith. A church that she’ll be the high priestess of and her first members will be those saved from Father Blackwood trying to poison them.

Lucy Davis Plays Hilda Spellman

Hilda (Lucy Davis) at Sabrina's Unholy Baptism.

Hilda (Lucy Davis)

First Noted In:

Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1: October Country”

Who Is Hilda

Hilda is the fun aunt. The one who doesn’t seem like a stick in the mud but clearly is not willing to challenge Zelda on her beliefs or take sides. Not to make her sound like a mediator, what so ever, but Hilda does her best to keep everyone happy. Also, she appears well versed in herbs and seems to know a variety of ways to heal ailments and deal with curses.

Additional Information About Hilda
  • When the Dark Lord decided to test her, he gave her a box with a button – something which likely pushed ideas of holding Pandora’s box. However, when the button was pushed and box later opened, nothing was in the box.

How Does Season 1 End For Hilda

With a sense of independence, Hilda has decided to no longer share a room with Zelda and may just be dating Dr. Cerberus now. Perhaps on her way to losing her virginity.

How Does Season 2 End For Hilda

She’s alive, and after helping Zelda to heal many of those poisoned by Father Blackwood, it seems she’ll be Zelda’s right hand as she gets the coven together.

Michelle Gomez Plays Mary Wardwell (Lilith)

First Noted In:

Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1: October Country”

Who Is Ms. Wardwell

Originally, she was just Sabrina’s history teacher with a deep knowledge of Greendale’s history. Even to the point of calling herself the town’s unofficial historian. However, after being attacked by what may be one of the 13 witches who were hung in 1682, during the town’s witch hunt, she is now someone new. Someone who wants to make sure Sabrina commits herself to the dark lord and rejects her mortal side.

Additional Information About Mary Wardwell (Lilith)
  • Her motivations are to eventually become Lucifer’s (The Dark Lord) equal – for she loves him. However, his doting and plans for Sabrina get in the way of that. Making her conflicted between an eons held promise and a half-mortal who stands the possibility of rising above her.

How Does Season 1 End For Ms. Wardwell Lillith

Ms. Wardwell reveals herself to be Lillith and that all she has done is so Sabrina can take her place as one of the dark lord’s top soldiers so she can become queen of hell. Which, if the dark lord dares betray her and tries to put Sabrina on the throne, she outright says she’ll kill Sabrina.

How Does Season 2 End For Lilith

As she has long wanted, she becomes the Queen of Hell.

Tati Gabrielle Plays Prudence

Prudence (Tati Gabrielle) holding a glass.

Prudence (Tati Gabrielle)

First Noted In:

Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1: October Country”

Who Is Prudence

Prudence very well might be your stereotypical mean girl character, just with the added bonus of her being willing to murder the person she hates. Said person being Sabrina who, alongside Agatha and Dorcas, she puts a blood curse on. One which could have killed Sabrina if it wasn’t for Aunt Hilda being well versed in cures.

Episode 7 Update

Prudence is an orphan girl who may come off as your stereotypical mean girl, but this senior witch, of the Unseen Academy of the Unseen Arts, does have a soft side. It is just, after losing her mother tragically, it has made Dorcas and Agatha one of the few she trusts. Well, alongside Father Blackwood who dotes on her.

Additional Information About Prudence

How Does Season 1 End For Prudence

With learning she is the oldest, recognized, bastard of Father Blackwood, nothing much has significantly changed. However, it seems with Sabrina’s decision in episode 10, those two are now much more chummy than they ever were before.

How Does Season 2 End For Prudence

After Father Blackwood poisoned her sisters, her fellow orphans, the coven, and also took her siblings who knows where, Prudence swears revenge and Ambrose plans to join her. For with Father Blackwood setting him up to seem like he murdered the Anti-Pope, he too wants revenge.

Rosallind aka Roz (Jaz Sinclair)

Lachlan Watson Plays Susie Theo

Susie (Lachlan Watson) after being beat up by the football team.

Theo (Lachlan Watson)

First Noted In:

Season 1/ Episode 1 “Chapter 1: October Country”

Who Is Susie Theo

I don’t want to use the wrong adjectives, but let’s just say Theo, formerly Susie, appears to be someone who is gender non-conforming. At least in appearance for Susie is often referred to as “she.” From what we can see, at Baxter High, she is often bullied for her androgynous looks, even to the point of the football team assaulting her. Thus leading to Sabrina and Roz creating a club so people like Susie can feel protected and aren’t isolated to the point of people feeling capable of taking advantage of them.

Though, by the end of the first season, it seems Susie may not need as much protection as she once did.

Season 2 Update

Theo is the new name for the person formally known as Susie.

Chance Perdomo Plays Ambrose

Ambrose (Chance Perdomo) just chilling.

First Noted In:

Ambrose is a strange young man. He is a warlock into necromancy and is currently serving an undefined term of house arrest with the Spellman family. He often refers to Sabrina as his cousin, enough times to start a drinking game, but with him being a person of color, it leads one to wonder who in the Spellman family likes their coffee Black? That is assuming Ambrose doesn’t just call Sabrina “cousin” as a term of affection.

Season 1 Update

Ambrose is a bi-sexual (some would even say pansexual) young warlock who, with losing his father at a young age, kind of wandered through life. Yet, despite a lack of direction, he ended up in Oxford and eventually found a person who filled the role of being a father for him. Said person is the reason why he ended up on house arrest for 75+ years and Ambrose’s loyalty to him is why he stays on house arrest for an indefinite matter of time.

Additional Information About Ambrose
  • When the Dark Lord called upon him, he had Ambrose mail a letter to an old acquaintance, a boy he knew from Oxford who had a crush on him. It isn’t clear what was in the letter but it was sent to the now men who had a wife and two kids. The results of sending that letter Ambrose finds too much to say.

Episode 7 Update

Also, we learn, like many a warlock it seems, he is a whore.

Season 1 Update

Father Blackwood is the High Priest of the Church of Night coven and is someone who is very much a traditionalist when it comes to the church. Especially in terms of maintaining patriarchal structures which gives quite a few liberties to warlocks and continues to have them hold power positions within the coven.

Additional Information About Father Blackwood
  • He claims his marriage to Constance was a burden on him. Perhaps because, when they were younger, he wanted to marry Zelda but Edward rebuked him.

Principal Hawthorne (Bronson Pinchot)

First Noted In:

Principal Hawthorne represents one of the many patriarchal figures which challenge Sabrina and her ideals. He is someone who’d rather Susie transfer schools than do something about the football team bullying her. He even gets upset about the creation of Sabrina’s club to protect girls like Susie. Making him the perfect candidate for the Dark Lord when he wishes to threaten Sabrina.

How They End Season 1 End For Them? (Spoilers)

The Dark Lord

Ending things with winking at Nick which may imply, out with the Harvey and in with Nick.

How Does Season 1 End For Zelda

After delivering Constance’s babies, we learn Zelda stole the oldest, a girl, for she doesn’t trust what Father Blackwood would do. So now she plans to raise the child, hopefully with Hilda’s support.

How Does Season 1 End For Hilda

With a sense of independence, Hilda has decided to no longer share a room with Zelda and may just be dating Dr. Cerberus now. Perhaps on her way to losing her virginity.

How Does Season 1 End For Prudence

With learning she is the oldest, recognized, bastard of Father Blackwood, nothing much has significantly changed. However, it seems with Sabrina’s decision in episode 10, those two are now much more chummy than they ever were before.

How Does Season 1 End For Dorcas

She’s alive and as dull as she was when we met her in episode 1.

How Does Season 1 End For Agatha

After being killed by Sabrina, but Tommy going back to the dead, Agatha seemingly is back to just being a basic minion.

How Does Season 1 End For Roz

With her blindness pending, Roz seemingly is trying to hone her cunning abilities and visually consume as much as possible.

How Does Season 1 End For Susie

With Dorothea guiding her, Susie is more confident than ever.

How Does Season 1 End For Ambrose

Thanks to Father Blackwood, Ambrose may still be limited in his movement, but he isn’t trapped in his aunt’s home. Also, he has found love with Lucas. Though, when it comes to being part of Father’s Blackwood’s plans, he seems a bit uneasy about that.

How Does Season 1 End For Father Blackwood

With a male heir, Father Blackwood believes the dark lord supports his vision to make the coven more traditional and completely undo the progressive changes Edward Spellman put in place. And by traditional, it seems male-dominated is the key to his vision.

How Does Season 1 End for Diana and Edward?

Both died in a plane accident, on the way to the Vatican, before the events of the series. However, when it comes to Diana, it seems she is stuck in limbo because she wasn’t baptized.

How Does Season 1 End for Principal Hawthorne

Principal Hawthorne gets eaten by Ms. Wardwell.

How Does Season 1 End for Tommy

Tommy is dead. Harvey kills him but makes it seem like it was a suicide.

How Does Season 1 End for Mr. Kinkle

After losing his son twice, once because of Agatha and Dorcas and then by Harvey killing him, but saying Tommy killed himself, Mr. Kinkle is likely a wreck. Yet, his focus is still getting the mine running again.

How Does Season 1 End for Daniel Webster

We don’t see Daniel Webster again after helping Sabrina, so we can only assume he is alive and well.

How Does Season 1 End for Luke

Luke appears to not be a witch hunter but he is very much in love with Ambrose. Perhaps beyond lust and is in love with him in a human sense.

How Does Season 1 End for Quentin

It’s safe to assume Quentin still haunts, with the rest of the kids, the grounds of the Academy. Making sure the Harrowing never begins again.

How Does Season 1 End for Uncle Jesse

Uncle Jesse gets killed by Ms. Wardwell after the demon is exorcized from him.

How Does Season 1 End for Nick

After keeping Harvey alive as the Red Angel of Death moved about, Nick returned to his normal life and studies. Though, with Sabrina becoming a full witch and leaving Harvey behind, maybe he may now have a chance. But, with Sabrina knowing real love, Nick may have to learn how mortals love and go beyond the lust which is common in witch culture.

How Does Season 1 End for Constance

Constance dies giving birth to her twins. One of which Father Blackwood will raise, Judas, and the other Zelda kept – the first twin born – who is a girl.

How Does Season 1 End for Batibat

As of episode 5, she is once more locked away. Just now into a regular jam jar.

How Does Season 1 End for Dr. Cerberus

It ends with Dr. Ceberus seeming like a possible love interest for Hilda. Also, with a glint in his eyes, him appearing to be a demon.

How Does Season 1 End for Nana Ruth

Nana Ruth dies in the season 1 finale during the storm.

How Does Season 1 End for Dezmelda

So it seems, Dezmelda is likely alive and back to living in isolation.

How Does Season 1 End for Dorothea

As of the end of season 1, Dorothea is still guiding Susie and we learn on top of bringing the witches to the new world, she was the one who cut them from the trees they were hung on. Leading to why Susie, when with Roz and Nana Ruth, was able to persuade one of the 13 witches who were hung to leave them be.

How Does Season 1 End for Leticia

With Zelda worried about Leticia’s safety in her home, she decides to send her to Desmelda, who we haven’t met yet, to be raised.

How Does Season 1 End for Mr. Bartel

He is killed by Gryla.

How Does Season 1 End for Gryla

With her Yule children, she enjoys the midwinter holiday and does nothing to Sabrina and the Spellmans, despite tricking her.

General Information

  • From what it appears, Hilda, Ambrose, Sabrina, and Zelda might be the last of the Spellman family.
  • Witches can live for hundreds of years. Dezmelda, for example, is said to be over 400.
  • Witches can be pregnant up to 13 months.
  • The Greendale 13 were 13 of the original witches who resided in Greendale. They were all killed but Dorothea was kind enough to cut them down from the tree they hanged on and buried them. Also, it should be noted, despite their pleas, other witches turned their backs on them.
  • Top Boys are introduced in season 2 and it is noted that being chosen for one is pretty much a fast track to becoming High Priest.

Notable Holidays & Occasions

Unholy Baptism

This is when a young warlock or witch officially signs their name in the Book of the Beast, swearing themselves to the Dark Lord and becomes part of the coven.

The Harrowing

Formerly, this was a hazing activity done for new students of the Academy of the Unseen arts which has killed a handful of witches and warlocks. Such as Quentin, introduced in season 1.

The Feasts of Feasts

A Thanksgiving adjacent holiday where the 14 great families of the coven put up one woman to be their queen. This centuries-old tradition leads to said queen being devoured in celebration of another witch who sacrificed herself so her fellow witches could survive.

The Solstice

Diana in a crown and white gown.

Diana

The time of year where the veil between the human world and other world is thin.

Devotion Showing

As part of swearing yourself to the Dark Lord, he may once, maybe multiple times, call on you to question your devotion. Sometimes it is in small gestures like asking you to press a button on a box. Other times it might be ruining someone’s life. It depends of the Dark Lord’s whims.

Lupercalia

The witch’s version of Valentine’s Day is a celebration of lust and about the open expression of urges. Well, to a point. It is still a holiday which is about one on one interaction, but it does end in what could be considered an orgy.

Notable Locations

The Spellman Garden

With soil from Cain’s garden soaked with Abel’s blood, anything buried within the plot comes back to life as seen from Hilda being resurrected multiple times and Agatha as well.

The Astral Plane

While never physically seen, this is the medium which witches use to project themselves across the world. However, if they stay too long these birl like beings, psychopomps, appear for they are unsure if they are a lost soul or not.

Baxter High

Baxter High seemingly is a former mansion turned into a high school where nearly every mortal child goes to on the show.

The Academy of the Unseen Arts

Sabrina looking at the Academy of the Unseen Arts

In what looks like an abandon train station is the Academy of the Unseen Arts. A place which is not only a school but is also an orphanage for at least 12 students who live there throughout the year, including holidays.

The Desecrated Church

Despite the size of the Academy, it seems it holds little to any events and instead nearly all coven gatherings, be it meetings or school performances, happens at the desecrated church.
