Recap

My Man, My Man, My Man: Deona, Cisco, Sahara, Husieen, Eddie, Wayne, Fritz, Rose, Calil, Tae, Jay, Kiara, Shanice, Coley

With the whole group now together, whether you are on second chances like Coley or have circled the bottom like Shanice, there are now far more options and it seems this is all the ladies needed. Heck, even Sahara, with Husieen, has something good going, for now. But there are some who are positively giddy about what could happen.

Deona, for example, loves her some Cisco for that masculine energy just does it for her. Angie, with Wayne falling off, begins to have a interest in Eddie, as does Coley since he has the height requirement down and others, like Tru, see the potential there. Fritz remains of interest for Rocky and Rose, Calil gets Tae’s eye, and for Kiara? Jay is her man at this point. He helped her in a crisis, and now she is smitten.

Which leaves Shanice. She too likes Husieen but for her it is a special reason. To counterbalance how she is all about work and that’s her identity, she reveals that is because she has been broke twice and homeless. So on the group date where Husieen says he has her and won’t let her fall, that touched her heart and got her a bit teary eyed.

I Mixed and Mingled, And Still May End Up Single: Tru, Naaem, Angie, Wayne, Cam, Deona, Coley, Tae

But while people are mixing and mingling, it does sound like people aren’t doing notable follow up off camera. Naaem and Wayne are called out for this and neither have that great of an excuse. For Naeem, he thinks he was given a fake number or something of that ilk. Though, in his defense, Tru is the type who wants to be pursued and chased and the most effort she would make is to say “Hello” and then after a baby step, pass the baton.

As for Wayne? He just seems to get girls’ numbers and then say nothing to them. Which he pushes is because he likes to do things at a slow pace and for women like Angie, she is under the impression if you are on this show you know what you want. Why should it take you days to text, call, or setup a date? Coley co-signs and with her brother’s birthday being the day of the date, and her trying to honor him through her decisions, it makes cutting off Wayne easy.

This leads us to Cam. Plain and simple, while he seems like a good dude, he is boring to Tae and not enough for Deona. Never mind, she doesn’t date other firefighters which is being held against him.

I Might Be Eliminated, But Wouldn’t Change A Thing: Cam, Wayne, Deona, Tae

So, once the ladies talk in Tommy’s Vault, ultimately it is decided that while Cam is a bit boring, he can step up compared to Wayne who wants to act like he has all the time in the world to make a move. Thus leading to Wayne being eliminated.

Highlights

  • People Who Seemed Stale Opening Up [83/100]

Based on the way Shanice and Coley were introduced, it would be easy to write them off. However, both are presented far better in this episode as Shanice talks about her struggles, which explain how she presented herself and Coley? Well, while it doesn’t make her seem less superficial, in terms of dating, as a person, you’re allowed to see beyond her presentation.

This, to me, adds to the plus of what we said in the last episode about “Ready To Love” making a better effort to make cast members three dimensional rather than people who fit into a dichotomy of people you are led to hate or love.

On The Fence

  • The Vetting Process [73/100]

With that said, how Wayne get on this show? A part of me wants to throw Naaem in there too, but focusing on Wayne, it really pushes you to wonder did no one ask him about his dating style? For waiting as long as he is willing to contact the ladies, how was that supposed to work out exactly? If each episode is a week, and he is cool with barely contacting the ladies all week, I’m lost and confused. Never mind, it seems he didn’t understand this is a competition, not some casual setup.

This makes me wish they would bring back showing some of the interviews and having people do full intros of themselves before the show starts. They cut this within the last few seasons, but as a viewer, while it may still make you roll your eyes, at least you know not to get your hopes up or invested in that person.

Trajectory

Trajectory (78/100): Plateau

It is appreciated how cast members are being given layers, nuance, and aren’t pushed to be two dimensional. However, there does remain the ongoing issue of wondering what the vetting process is and wondering if someone lied or were hoping that, even if someone wasn’t ready to love, they’d at least make good TV.
