Recap

After handling the Calamity as he did, the Demon Lord thinks the best thing for Uchimura to take on next is to become a king. Now, in the world of the Demon Lord, it seems kings are adjacent, like the Rampage King, and while Uchimura is an odd choice, considering most kings maintain their position through power or suppression, the Demon Lord has a different belief. He wants to replace the kings of yore, known for bad leadership, with those like Uchimura, who wish to aid and support the people, bring empires together, and create a better world.

Now, while Uchimura has no issue with being a workhorse, the problem with this potential promotion is that it comes with an ultimatum. The Demon Lord wants to see Uchimura be ambitious, and if he chooses not to, then he thinks it would be best to return him to his world. This leads to a lot of soul-searching as Uchimura is willing to quit rather than face himself, his insecurities, and the voices that have diminished him for years.

However, as he tries to say goodbye and seeks to work his way towards quitting, each of the Great Generals reminds him of his influence and the positive results of his actions, and they make it so the original message of quitting never gets out. Then, with Ulmandra, she breaks him, and he decides to stay but does not intend to become king yet. He wants more time to hone in on who he is without the shackles of unsupportive leadership and peers so that he can become a fully realized version of the king that the Demon Lord believes he can be.

Review

Trajectory (90/100): Plateau

While it isn’t 100% clear how old Uchimura is, it has long been clear that he has no fear of working hard. However, due to his lack of extrinsic motivation, it seemed he lost that ambition many people have when they were young, which leads them to think they can change or do better things. For a lot of people, that gets cut out of you, and you just become a cog in the machine, oiled as necessary, and for Uchimura, it seems, at times, he was fine with that – even as he was moved from machine to machine.

However, under the Demon Lord, Uchimura isn’t a cog but a person, and it has been interesting to see Uchimura’s growth and almost rehabilitation as a person. Empowered to make change, while he hasn’t drastically altered the world, his influence, his kindness, and his earnestness have made an impact. In the review of a movie called “Ricky,” we talk about how it takes a village to raise a child, but what support does an adult man have? In “Headhunted To Another World,” we’re reminded how much a man needs the support and guidance of a mentor, especially if they are his superior. Including peers who, brilliant in their own right, see either your potential or acknowledge you as an equal who can trade expertise.

This episode really just shows how much a brilliant worker needs an equally brilliant company to foster them so that they can grow. Anything less will make a person feel strangled and slowly shrink and curl up, desperate to live yet slowly dying inside.
