Episode 3 “The Assassin Plays With A Cat” Storylines/ Recap

The Other “Heroes”

Akira’s classmates stumble upon a Japanese inspired town where they plan to live and train until they eventually face the Demon Lord. There is some talk of joining forces with Akira but recognizing that he has long been a bit of a loner, and he is likely more powerful than them, it is decided that, if they are to integrate him into the team, it will be when they match his strength.

Here Comes Night: Night, Amelia, Akira

The dragon which Akira defeated ends up being a demon cat, who can talk, and conveys a message from the demon lord beckoning Akira to his lair. That is set aside for while Akira being on the demon lord’s radar is of interest, there remains the question of how to get out of that room considering the rules of the labyrinth being either the challenger or boss has to die.

The answer? Make the cat a familiar. This is supposedly a difficult task but Akira wins over the cat, names it Night, due to its dark fur, and next thing you know, it goes from practically looking down at Akira to being enamored by him, and Amelia being jealous of their sudden closeness.

The Journey Home: Night, Amelia, Akira, Kilika

Luckily for Amelia, when a teleportation circle appears, it takes them all to her homeland on the Forest Continent, home of the Elves, right to the Holy Tree. But, while bringing Akira home should be a lovely thing, unfortunately Amelia’s little sister, Kilika, has branded her a traitor to be assassinated on sight. Leaving Akira to thrwat an assassination attempt but once he, Night, and Amelia are surrounded, it isn’t clear what they can do next.

Overall

Our Overall Rating [80/100]

Can they just cut Akira’s classmates? Between Night’s backstory, the bonding they had with Akira, Amelia’s jealousy, and now diving into her backstory, what do we need them for? Heck, it was more interesting seeing Akira’s family dynamic with his little sister and mom than hearing them talk, never mind continue to prop up the class president as a leader.

But, who knows? With Akira still very iffy on monsters and demons truly being evil, maybe keeping them around could mean something as Akira finds himself facing off against them – maybe becoming the right hand of the demon lord.
