Episode 2 “The Assassin Takes Care of the Wounded” Storylines/ Recap
While Commander Saran assumed he was able to operate under the King’s nose, it seems he was caught. Because of this, and Akira revealing himself to the princess, Saran is killed, and Akira is framed for the death. Luckily, before his murder, Saran gave Gilles instructions to help Akira escape, and so he does to the Labyrinth of Kantinen, where he meets a royal elf who might be the first friend he makes in this new world, who may not have a hidden agenda.
As for his classmates? It is made clear through the princess that they are pawns for the king to have a war with the east, and while Gilles was able to use his manipulation skills to overpower the princess’ curse magic, only a handful of Akira’s classmates are saved. One being the hero, Tsukasa, who Akira saved, as well as Kyousuke, who seemingly was a close friend of Akira, or at least knew him better than anyone else.
How? Well, either through their younger sisters being friends, or them having a bond of their own.
Review and Commentary
Highlights
Saran’s Death Was Shocking But Necessary [82/100]

Being that Saran was a confident, paternal, or big brother figure, it wasn’t expected that he’d be killed off. Yet, it benefits the show so much. One, it forced Akira out of the nest and made it so he had to show how self-sufficient he is. Following that, with him noting he took care of his sickly mom, showed himself working despite his age, it opened the door to not only develop him more but also present him as capable of being transported to a new world and surviving.
That is as opposed to what we usually see in Isekai, where they are highly dependent on someone to survive, and lose some of their ability to be seen as the lead because of how heavily supported they are.
The Dynamic The Royal Elf And Akira Will Have [84/100]

With the reveal of Akira having a little sister, the likelihood of him becoming protective over Amelia (whose name isn’t revealed this episode) is high, and with the show presenting it isn’t against flashbacks, it pushes the idea that, alongside the action sequences, which are cool but not remarkable, we may also get some level of emotional storylines here.
Now, I’ll admit, Saran’s death was more of a catalyst than something to get teary-eyed over, but I could imagine with Amelia, things being different. Especially considering she is a royal elf who, for some reason, ended up on their own, 70+ levels in a dungeon. Add on she made it sound like she might be royal but isn’t necessarily doted on, and it furthers the idea, romantic or not, this pairing could be quite interesting.
The King and Princess Being Evil [80/100]

Yes, Saran was upfront that something was off, alongside that mysterious woman wearing the hood in episode one. However, what their goal was and how they were evil wasn’t revealed until this episode, and it is satisfactory. Maybe not jaw drop, these people are immensely wicked, but there is the possibility, depending on who this kingdom is they are trying to go to war with, and the devastation, they could build themselves up more as villains.
On The Fence
Akira’s Classmates [74/100]
It isn’t 100% clear what the show plans to do with them and if that journey is going to be of any interest. Tsukasa is clearly looking for a demon lord, and between Kyousuke and the many others they are following him, but none of them really stand out. Physically, to a point, yes, but personality or skill-wise? They don’t have that it factor, and their dynamic with each other doesn’t draw me in much either.

Add in the rest of the class being pawns, and it makes you wonder what will be done to make this group special?
Overall
Our Overall Rating [80/100]
Whether the show may end up like many, where a huge cast drags it down a bit, remains to be seen. However, at least with Akira, there could be more than enough there to not see his classmates as more than a bruise on an otherwise beautiful thing.

An Isekai without a lead who is easy to attach to but at least it has a story intriguing enough to compensate.
