Personal But Not Malicious: Eris, Rudy, Ghislaine
Eris leaving Rudy as she did was devastating to him. It caused erectile dysfunction, made him question his worth, and he spent a good part of season 2 trying to recover. But from what it seems, her leaving wasn’t malicious. She wanted to earn, deserve to be by Rudy’s side, so with Ghislaine, they traveled to where she was trained. All while Eris learned the basics to be ready for what could be thrown at her.
Years of Training, Same Attitude: Eris, Ghislaine, Gino, Nina, Gal
Despite the many years since we met Eris, the attitude has remained the same. Upon entering the building where Ghislaine’s master, Sword God Gal, trained her, Eris is as obnoxious as ever. But in her defense, even without formal training, she takes out not only Gal’s lowest student, Gino, but his daughter Nina, even with Nina cheating.
This leads to Gal, despite Eris’ attitude, inviting her to stay, alongside Ghislaine. But even with years of staying, and Gino warming up to Eris, she remains as isolated and a touch mean as when she first arrived. Just stronger and perhaps more talented than her peers.
Mastery Of One Is Not Enough: Eris, Ghislaine, Gal, Auber
For years, all we see is Eris swinging her sword, trying to do it faster, to master a technique Gal used in order to humble her when they dueled. It is called the “Blade of Light,” and it is a swift attack that expels much force when you swing your blade. Despite Eris defeating Gal’s students, she doesn’t master it until a master of the North God style, Auber Corbett, arrives.
They duel twice on screen, with Eris giving him a run for his money the first time, but being defeated, and Auber losing in their second duel. His arrival couldn’t come soon enough, for while Eris wasn’t complaining about her training, Ghislaine did wonder why Gal wasn’t more hands-on.
But with part of Eris’ goals not only being worthy of Rudy but also being able to face the Dragon God Orsted, Gal knows there is only so much he can do. Hence, he sent letters to multiple masters, inviting them to train Eris.

Review and Commentary
Highlights
The Action Scenes [85/100]
On top of being one of my favorite series, Jobless Reincarnation has also set many standards for me – of which one major one is what a good action scene looks like. The balance between being flashy and brutal, showing people hurt without making it over the top, and just getting a sense of what it means to potentially get your ass whipped.
Case in point, Eris beating Nina into a pulp, and watching her face recover. Seeing Eris’ hands as she trained for years, or Eris’ battles with Auber. It gives you the full range of what a battle means between the damage you get from training, the battle, and then the recovery, if you get to fight another day. The combination makes you appreciate what it means to put your life or just your body on the line.
A Reminder Of Why Eris Is Easy To Hate, Easy To Love [86/100]
Eris has always been a bit rough around the edges. She was spoiled, a brat, and violent, but she has shown herself capable of being soft and loving. It is just very selective, and like a lot of people similar to her, once you’re in, as long as you don’t do something major to upset them, you’re a lock.
I mean, take her current journey. While she isn’t 100% aware of its effect on Rudy, it was all because she wanted to be his equal – worthy of standing by him as a partner. In many ways, isn’t that sweet? Granted, the journey to being as good as Rudy, especially his mage powers, is going to be brutal.
However, there remains something about Eris, despite her loving efforts, which reminds you that every time she gets her ass whooped, she deserves it. Yet, there is also something about her getting back up and being ready for another round, which reminds you that she isn’t all bark and no bite.
Sneaking In Some Ghislaine Development [83/100]
While we have seen Ghislaine’s homelands, like Eris, she has long been missing and honestly missed. So while things are primarily focused on Eris, it was nice to get something about her. Be it meeting her master, him chastising her progress as a swordsman, and seeing she too has changed over time. Granted, in the form of Eris rubbing off on her a bit, but it is sweet to see what effect she has had.
Overall
Our Overall Rating [84/100]
Season 3 doesn’t necessarily return with a bang, but it does avoid the slump many shows end up having as it reintroduces characters, as well as where they are physically, mentally, and emotionally. Add in that this is an anime, so it isn’t months but a little more than 2 years since the last episode? It makes the show returning without much, if anything, to criticize remarkable.
