Recap

With Gim, a staple food across the Demon Lord’s kingdom, becoming unaffordable for the average citizen, Uchimura is tasked with seeing what is going on, and Belinda, Sylphid, decides to join him. Together, it is assumed the Guild is responsible, and they are right. But, what Uchimura could never assume is that the guild master, Viper Lordpent, is Belinda’s younger brother, and there is no love loss between them.

But, to make matters worse, the Lordpent family is strictly about money and have screwed over their own race in the past, burning their homes and even damn near enslaving them. That is the case of Neia, who was forced to become Viper’s secretary, but considering the abuse she has gone through, it seems secretary is just a title when, in truth, she is just something to lash out at.

Yet, despite her mistreatment, she decides to spy for Viper, take advantage of Uchimura’s kindness and screw him over. But with Uchimura always coming up with ways to get back into the game, he has a plan partly inspired by Ulmandra taking out some dragon-like entities in the northern part of the kingdom.

New Characters

Viper Lordpent (Kengo Kasai)

Viper Lordpent (Kengo Kasai) in Headhunted to Another World From Salaryman to Big Four: Season 1 Episode 8, directed by Michio Fukuda (Crunchyroll)

Viper is the head of the Lordpent family, the strongest line of elves, who are known for intermixing with different races due to two elves struggling to have kids together. He, someone half Naga, is ruthless and whether it be those of the elven race, children, or the poor, he is willing and able to exploit them all if it means a substantial profit.

Neia (Ayafumi Tsukui)

Neia (Ayafumi Tsukui) in Headhunted to Another World From Salaryman to Big Four: Season 1 Episode 8, directed by Michio Fukuda (Crunchyroll)

Neia is a member of the Lordpent family, but from a lesser line so she, like her parents, were at the mercy of Viper and with him demanding her for his secretary, her parents had no choice and she went willingly. She hasn’t known peace since.

Trajectory

Trajectory (81/100): Plateau

Episode 8 checks off many of our boxes: It digs into a character’s background, gives world-building through talking about how elves procreate and one of their major families, introduces compelling characters, one of which is a villain, and for Uchimura, allows yet another business lesson to be delivered in an understandable package. Which really makes the only negative here being Uchimura having a odd handful of scenes with Neia and the push that little girls have a spell on him.

Now, you can spin this and push that maybe Uchimura had a sister, maybe cousins, or maybe was an honorary uncle. After all, we don’t know much about Uchimura beyond his work life. We see he once had friends, but what happened to them is anyone’s guess. Never mind, who knows if Uchimura likes or wants a child. So, while Sylphid pushes something nefarious, who is to say Uchimura being weird as usual isn’t being misinterpreted?

After all, him being human opens him up to being manipulated. Between Viper and King Rampage, both have recognized his formidable reputation while questioning some of his eyebrow-raising tactics. So, it is good to see people exploiting his weaknesses, forcing him to really rely on his strengths to show he is not one to mess with.
