Recap

You Gotta Have Fun With It: Miguel, D Smoke, Ty Dolla $ign, Troyman, Caleb Colossus, Tory Lanez

One of the things we see a lot of this episode is the more chill rappers, like D Smoke and Caleb, breaking out of their shell. D Smoke, while not bouncing about like Troyman, stepped away from his signature persona and showed he could get down as much as the rest of them. Thus giving you this vibe he can switch it up, depending on the environment and those in it.

The same goes for Caleb. Though still someone I can’t believe beat Sam Be Yourself, he tried to prove he still belonged. However, like last week, there was this vibe he wasn’t in his element, and it showed by the judges noting his energy dropping throughout the performance.

As for Troyman? What can really be said? Is he the top of this show? No. However, it seems clear at this point that he can have a career without winning. Like Jennifer Hudson, amongst many others who didn’t win the shows they were on, there is a strong chance he will have a career. Maybe even one bigger than the winner, commercially anyway.

Get Sexy With It: Jhené Aiko, Flawless Real Talk

Jhené Aiko noting Flawless Real Talk made her nervous.

Flawless Real Talk is really tapping into his sexy without taking his shirt off. It gets to the point Cardi is feeling hot and bothered, Jhené was talking about feeling nervous, and it continued to show Flawless lives up to his name. For whether you are talking about his look, personality, flow, and whatever else you can name, he has that with very few things to take note of.

Well, outside of maybe being too humble. T.I. does get on him for bringing up Kendrick Lamar’s name right after everyone was praising him. But really, all it does is add to the appeal that he can be so confident on stage yet also recognize the shoes he was filling, or standing beside, when it came to the track.

Will One F*** Up Ruin An Opportunity?: Teyana Taylor, Londynn B, Caleb Collossus

Let it be noted, they got these people popping out songs and performing within 48 or 72 hours. There isn’t a whole lot of respect for whether they are parents, what they are going through at home, and with minimal mentorship, everyone is basically on their own. So one person was bound to have a bad day, and it ends up being Londynn B. Someone paired with Teyana Taylor who she gets along with, connected with in a way you can imagine them working together, but she flubs her verse in the performance.

Thus leading to the question, between the person who consistently is towards the bottom and someone who usually is in the top 3, who is going home?

Collected Quote(s) & .Gifs

Cardi B giving a compliment.
Cardi B: That was so beautiful.

If you’re a superstar, you keep the light shining where it’s supposed to, you dig?
— T.I.

I’d rather have an imperfect performance with an impact than a perfect performance with no impact.
— Londynn B

Review

On The Fence

While King Los Does Advise, As The R&B Artists Did This Episode, You Can’t Help But Feel These People Are Thrown To The Wolves

I honestly can’t get past the idea you got these rappers, at various experience levels, all treated like they are just undiscovered talent. And what really bugs me is that these are also people who we are repeatedly told haven’t had the best upbringings, need this opportunity, and are given these epic sob stories, yet there is no one there for them mentally, emotionally, and no form of mentorship. If they don’t call home, then they are just assed.

Also, it kind of sucks they drop these vague ass critiques and leave everyone to obsess over them. If not, like with the issue some have with Troyman’s attire in the beginning, don’t help them create a style that is them yet still can be seen as modern and fly. But, since the beginning, there has been this issue of the show being way too hands-off and then judging these people, all who are barely 30, maybe doing this for a handful of years, for being green. Making it so they had to rise to the occasion and hope they didn’t stumble. All the while, you got folks like Flawless and D Smoke, who clearly are more advanced than most, operating at a level that makes it unfair to the rest.

Londynn B not complaining, but noting how hard the competition is.
Londynn B: This competition is extremely hard.

But, hey, I guess the idea here is no one held Chance, Cardi, or T.I.’s hand, so why should they hold the contestants’?
