The Girl Who Fell Out Of The Sky – Sylphie, Derek, Luke, Ariel
Suddenly, Sylphie finds herself in the air, far from her home in Buena Village, on a crash course to the garden of the Royal Palace of Asura, and luckily for her and Princess Ariel, she crashes on a boar-like monster. This saves the life of the second princess, Ariel, and one of her guards, Luke, but unfortunately, her advisor, Derek, died before Sylphie’s chance arrival.
To thank Sylphie and take advantage of her being a foreigner in a strange land, Ariel presents the subtle threat of Sylphie being treated as a trespasser, and in order to not be charged, she is coerced into being Ariel’s Mage Bodyguard.
The Bastard & The Princess – Ariel, Luke, Lord Pilemon, Sylphie, Grabel, Darius
With a new name, Fitz, Sylphie has worked hard to adjust to being a bodyguard, especially amongst the noble class, but sometimes she falters. Luckily, she isn’t expected to speak much, and her frame lends itself to the idea she is a boy, which allows some level of protection. However, there is massive disrespect and rumors towards Sylphie due to her association with Ariel and the battle Ariel is in with her older bastard, brother Grabel for the throne.
The game is already in progress, and while Grabel has the army, his birth order, and being male on his side, alongside the conniving Darius, Ariel does have the love of many people, Luke, Sylphie, and Luke’s father, Lord Pilemon. Someone who Grabel makes clear isn’t necessarily the best ally, as he seems unable to be the victor in whatever fight he has ever gotten into in which there is a prize.
However, Ariel needs allies and an advisor, and she has a limited number of people she can trust, considering she is increasingly in danger.
Bide Your Time And Wait Your Turn – Ariel, Luke, Lord Pilemon, Sylphie, Darius, Night-Eyed Hawk
Case in point, Darius sends a famous noble assassin, “Night-Eyed Hawk,” to kill Ariel, but, luckily for Ariel, she was having a sleepover of sorts with Sylphie, mainly to aid their shared nightmare of the events the day they met. But, with an assassination attempt, Lord Pilemon believes it would be best for Ariel to flee, and tend to her studies, than remain in the kingdom, which she agrees with.
As this happens, she frees Sylphie from any sense of duty for the pretenses of their relationship, the blackmail of being charged with trespassing, really can’t hold when Sylphie has now saved Ariel’s life twice. But, with nowhere else to go or even an idea of where her friends or family can be, Sylphie decides to stay by Ariel’s side and join her and Luke as they travel abroad.

Highlights
World Building In Conjunction With Filling In A Gap
Only “Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation” has the capability to forego having its season premiere omit its lead in Rudy and focus on a character who was absent for most of the first season but appeared as part of its finale. Then, on top of that, use the time to bridge the gap between what happened to Sylvie when everyone was transported and set up the kind of adventure you’d want to be on.
Mind you, while fleshing out the Asura kingdom, or at least its politics – which includes a member of Rudy’s family, Lord Pilemon, and Luke.
The Politics Of It All
It isn’t explicitly clear how a rightfully born heir, fourth in line for the Asura throne, suddenly gained the possibility of becoming Queen unless her elder sister was married off and another brother killed or presumed missing. However, watching Grabel and her do pleasantries while speaking in such a way only the other could understand the delicate balance between threat and being cordial, it does push you to wonder what could happen next.
Would Darius be pleased enough with Ariel having to leave Asura, or does the idea of her boosting her foreign standing present too big of a threat? Never mind, from what we’re shown in the last season, Rudy and Sylphie reunite at the Ranaoa University of Magic – so what led Sylphie to leave Ariel’s side and pursue her education? Did something happen, or was it to better her abilities to serve Ariel?

Why Is The Episode Called “Guardian Fitz?”
For that is Sylphie’s new name while protecting Ariel, in order to hide she is a woman since it appears female guards do not exist.
Who Is Ariel
Ariel, voiced by Ueda Reina, is the second princess of the Kingdom of Asura, and 4th in line, behind two brothers and a sister. She originally had no desire for the throne, but as she grew older, something shifted, and becoming Queen became something she was willing to work for.
Who Is Derek
Derek, voiced by Yamashita Seiichirou, was one of Ariel’s advisors until he was killed.
Who Is Luke
Luke, voiced by Okitsu Kazuyuki, is a member of the Notos Greyrat family, Rudy’s family, who is Ariel’s sworn bodyguard.
Who Is Grabel
Grabel, voiced by Mizunaka Masaaki, is Ariel’s rival for the throne and her older brother. He has to his advantage being a male, but with being the son of a concubine, this does allow some room to question whether he should rule the kingdom.
Who Is Darius
Darius, voiced by Taketora, is Grabel’s ally who is not above planting agents, creating and gathering rumors, and even assassination if needed.
Who Is Lord Pilemon
Lord Pilemon, voiced by Terasoma Masaki, is a member of the Notos Greyrat family whose reputation doesn’t make him sound like the best ally. Yes, he is wise and knowledgeable, but going by his conversation with Grabel in the episode, it does seem he isn’t willing to do what it takes to win any prize and is happy with a consolation trinket.
Who Is Night-Eyed Hawk
She is a notable, now former, assassin who Darius used to kill nobles, and from what it appears, she was quite young and likely exploited in ways even this show may not be willing to go into.
