Who Is Mariana?

An MIT grad now working at tech startup Speckulate, she is a fun, mostly carefree, girl who wants love, fulfillment, and is struggling to find both. Thankfully, with living at The Coterie and living with he adopted sister Callie, her struggles seem to be met with just the support she needs.

Who Is Callie?

Raised in the foster system, with her younger brother Jude, and going through quite some trials and tribulations during that time, Callie found stability in the Fosters’ home. It was a little bit rough at first, since Callie lacked trust, but eventually she found a home under their roof. Now, there were some problems with her siblings, like Mariana, as well as an off and on again romance with her foster brother Branden, but eventually their chemistry fizzled out and their loved for one another became appropriate for their circumstances.

Now, in Good Trouble, after graduating from a state school, at the top of her class, she has decided to work under the tutelage of Judge Wilson. A man whose politics are the opposite of hers, Callie’s is very liberal, an activist even, but she figures she can learn from him and hopes he is willing to learn from her. For if Callie has proven one thing over the timespan we have gotten to know her is that she tries to keep an open mind. Yes, there will be initial judgments, but she will try to push against those to find your humanity and ultimately understand you.

Who Is Judge Wilson

Appointed during the Bush administration, Judge Wilson is considered a conservative judge but he is first to note he is not an activist one. He goes strictly by the constitution and depending on who you ask, the main reason he may have hired Callie was to prep against a liberal argument.

Who Is Malika

Like Callie, Malika grew up in the foster system. Unlike Callie, she didn’t find her forever family. But, she is doing okay now. Her role, early on in the series, seems to be making Callie feel guilty by not telling her a Black Lives Matter case she is invested in got switched to Judge Wilson. Someone who usually sides with cops.

  • Malika wasn’t in foster care because someone called CPS on her mother, who was raising her, but she is the one who called CPS. Also, since her childhood, she never did reconcile with her mom. At least the way her brother thinks they should had.

However, because Mariana had a crush on him, that ended. But, with learning Gael is bi, it seems between that, and Callie sleeping with him, her feelings for Gael may have dissipated.

At one time he had a big house, a wife, even a kid, alongside a corporate job but then his kid died of cancer. Once that happened, Dennis regressed in life and though he makes a decent enough salary to live comfortable at the Coterie, he experiences less stress. Which makes it so, even if bad mouthed for messing around with younger women, it is better than dealing with the past life he doesn’t want to face.

Stef is the more serious of Mariana and Callie’s moms, but that comes from her police background and not having the best parents. Loving, in their own way, but her dad was a real piece of work. However, despite how hard she can be, and judgmental, she does push her kids to want and expect better, as well as lets them know someone loves them, fiercely, and would do anything and everything within her power if something happened to them.

Jesus is Mariana’s fraternal twin brother and Callie’s adopted brother. He is one of the few of the siblings to not pursue a Bachelor’s degree and instead pursued getting a license to construction. Something he does with Mariana’s ex, Wyatt, by building tree houses. However, he has looked into building homes in the future.

Formerly a drug addict, now just an alcoholic, Malika’s mom, Keisha, isn’t in the best place in life. She is sickly, doesn’t seem to leave the house much, but with her reconciling with Dom she hopes to with Malika. Unfortunately for Malika, that means her mom being apologized to for her calling CPS on her.

Dom and Malika’s father who was imprisoned for most of their lives and who Keisha, so it appears, kept them from knowing. Partly since he was in Folsom prison, as well as reasons which hopefully will be revealed later on.

  • We learn he formerly was a Black Panther and that he ended up in jail for 10 years after, allegedly, drugs were planted on him. Also, we learn Keisha didn’t support his activism.

Lindsay is a popular, gender non-binary, comic who Alice looks up to, as many others do. However, for Joey, they have a bit of a tiff with Lindsay since they share an ex. One that caused Joey’s issues with trust since they broke up with them to get back with Lindsay, who, depending on how you take the story, took them back.

Which might be something Lindsay generally does. They like what is hot and popular and when they get bored, they set them free. However, if someone else decides to want them, make them seem valuable again, they take them back.
