Recap

Decoupling Still In Progress: Jeremy, Jules

With Jeremy no longer subscribed to Jules’ life, she is trying to better herself, but it is difficult. After all, she has a lot of habits that can’t be changed overnight. However, the quickest way to modify your routine is to present motivation. Said motivation is Jeremy being around more and seemingly ready to have the benefits of a relationship without a commitment. So, due to the way he talks and how he’d like to act, Jules decides to expedite moving out.

Good Advice Is Hard To Implement: Jules, Madison, Stella

While Madison and Stella have maintained a relationship without Jules playing middle person for all these years, that doesn’t mean they are the most peaceful set of people around. Madison is very much about the work hard and play hard life and Stella? Well, she believes in working hard enough to get the experience of doing what you want.

This presents a conflict as they try to give Jules advice on what to do in regards to her living situation. One that balloons to the point the ladies seem to have a real tiff about having two starkly different opinions. Oh, and the fact Stella says some wild things and Madison makes sure she knows more than half of what she says is wrong. Like her statement about Steve Jobs killing himself.

Due to Stella and Madison going back and forth, and Jules realizing neither one of them necessarily has something in mind she can either afford or willingly do, she turns to Izzy. Someone who seems to have boundary issues as much, if not worse, than Jeremy, but she means well. So while Jules ultimately decides to take up an ad on craigslist for a place, she does allow Izzy to join her friendship group. One that, with Jules making a decision, starts to become a bit more peaceful.

Highlights

Stella

While we get more of the same out of Stella, the fact they can present a new situation and keep up the writing and performance for the character, that is notable. Now, of course, we’re still early on, so getting too excited could ruin things down the line, especially when binging a show. However, there is this feeling that you don’t need to wait for the shoe to drop when it comes to Stella, and instead, just enjoy the ride.

Being Inside Jules’ Head

It’s not necessarily spelled out what is going on when Jules’ app is talking back to her, or the cat lady pops up, yet it is some of her most interesting interactions on the show. For what she has with Madison, even Izzy, is very familiar, and we’ve seen on many shows like this. Even her conversations with Stella, as bizarre as she can be, have this slight air of familiarity.

Jules' app insulting her.

However, the delusions bring something fresh and hopefully remain constant to help ease what feels common from dragging this show.
