Recap

I Just Needed Someone To Care: Jay, Diane, Elliot

We’ve seen Jay bounce off the walls since we’ve known him in a manic way, but no one has asked why? Diane and Elliot are different, however. They take Jay to a doctor who decides to put him on Adderall. Which does lead Diane to ask about therapy but the doctor completely disregards that for an easy fix.

The Pressure Is On – For Some: Depression Kitty, Shannon, Greg, Andrew, Jessi, Jay, Missy, Nick

Standardized tests are freaking out many for, like in the case of Shannon, they make it seem they will dictate the rest of these 7th graders life. Hence why Jessi is freaking out to the point of the Depression Kitty lurking about. What doesn’t help though is Missy taking things with ease, Andrew freaking out, and Jay’s offer of Adderall which does make Nick jumpy, but he seems focused.

Depression Kitty: Why don’t you just give up?

However, for Jessi? Adderall, mixed with her natural chemical compound, makes it so the Depression Kitty finds a way in and nearly takes Jessi down. Also, the stress causes impotence for Andrew who, strangely, isn’t visited by the Depression Kitty.

Question(s) Left Unanswered
  1. Why isn’t there a character to represent anxiety?
  2. What happened to Jessi going to therapy?

The Side Effects Of Pursuing A Secure Future: Missy, Andrew, Nick, Jay

The pressure to do well eventually hits Missy, leading to her hitting up Jay and having adverse effects to the Adderal. As for Nick and Andrew? Well, due to fighting over an Adderall pill they both fail. And as for Jay? Well, someone snitched and the cops haul him in. But, luckily for Jay, his dad bails him out and takes him home.

Highlights

Addressing Test Stress

Standardized testing, even if it isn’t the voluntary tests like the SATs and ACTs, is a killer. So while this will likely be the first and last time the show may touch upon it for some time, as it seems to run through minor issues and expand them into episodes, at least a shout out was done.

Devon Painting His Face White When Cops Showed Up

Devon with his face painted white and a Conan O'Brien wig.

You know what would make a really good episode? Devon getting the talk about police brutality and the show making a point that whether it is Jay, Missy, or Devon, the world operates for them differently than it does for Andrew, Nick, and Jessi. But who knows if the show may pursue that beyond the joke this episode?
