Plot Summary

Drew and Mason were both single and haven’t been lucky in love lately. Enter “The Match,” which is an app that suddenly appeared for them, and it truly seemed like the algorithm had found their perfect person. In fact, the people behind “The Match” were so sure of their software that they would pay for the first date, and they decided to host a weekend getaway.

However, neither Drew nor Mason expected this weekend getaway to test their chemistry, morals, and willingness to possibly kill to survive.

Highlights

It Keeps You Engaged Throughout

By no means is “The Match” your generic thriller, especially amongst those with a Black majority cast, where there is this crazed light-skinned character stalking and trying to kill the lead. This film pursues being different by not only pursuing the idea that Mason and Drew have a real shot at being a couple but also tests their relationship in such a way that you can see the challenges they face as real trials of whether they could be in it for the long haul.

As you can surmise from the trailer, they are pushed to potentially kill each other, but who is to say this isn’t meant to push them to see the best or worst of one another? This is especially true as the orchestrator of it all pushes out their secrets and makes them face the question of whether love or lust is driving them together and whether who they are beyond the façade could drive them apart.

Truly, it is an easy film to get invested in and definitely the kind of film that would be fun to watch with others.
